Interesting Derrick Rose-Justin Dentmon link

So you just never know what you might find when you start searching around the Interwebs, do you?
Today revealed this story on how Derrick Rose’s probable selection tonight as the first pick in the NBA Draft will provide further proof of the strength of Chicago high school basketball.
Buried deep in the story is an anecdote of how Rose’s coach at Simeon High School had a policy of not playing freshmen on the varsity, which the author surmises might have cost the team a state title when it lost to Cardondale in the 2004 Class AA finals in part because the team “did not have a bigger guard to defend against Justin Dentmon.” Yep, the same Justin Dentmon.
Dentmon ended up leading Carbondale to a third-place finish at the state tournament, performances that proved pivotal in the decision of UW coaches to eventually offer him a scholarship. Husky assistant Jim Shaw, then coaching at Oklahoma, was at the tournament as Dentmon emerged as the leading scorer among all players with 78 points in three games, 24 more than anyone else, including current Clippers guard Shaun Livingston. Dentmon, originally headed to Illinois State, instead ended up attending prep school for a year after problems with his SAT, where he reopened his recruitment and ended up signing with the Huskies.
