Ex-Huskies get new starts

The beginning of a new season also means a new beginning for three former Huskies who are now playing college ball elsewhere — Adrian Oliver, Phil Nelson and Joel Smith.
Here are quick updates on all three:
— Oliver is now at San Jose State but isn’t eligible until the end of the fall semester, or mid-December or so. Interestingly, he’s now listed as 6-4, 210 by San Jose State compared to 6-3, 195 at UW this time a year ago. Oliver was recently listed as a transfer to keep an eye on by Fox Sports (as was Nelson).
— Nelson is now at Portland State, where he will be immediately eligible this season after sitting out last year. Here’s a recent story on Nelson including the fact that he scored 19 points in PSU’s exhibition opener over Western Oregon.
— Smith is at Division-II Chaminade University where his season got off to a rough start last week in an exhibition game against Hawaii. Smith scored just one point in 29 minutes, going 0-6 from the floor. Chaminade opens its regular season Nov. 24 against North Carolina in the Maui Classic, a game that will be televised on ESPNU.
