Florida International game thread

IT’S OVER — Washington wins 74-51. Dentmon is the leading scorer with 21 and Thomas had 19. Brockman finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. That’s the end of the game thread. Check back for post-game notes.
HITTING THE STREETS — Many fans are making a mass exodus from this one. It looks to be in the books. UW leads 66-48 with 3:47 remaining.
TAKING OVER — The UW is exhorting control of the game with sheer will. They sill aren’t shooting all that well. Just 20 of 50. But they’re dominating the glass 35-20. Thomas and Dentmon each have 16. UW leads 55-45 with 7:59 left.
HUSKY RUN — After falling behind 30-22, the UW is on a 13-2 run and has taken a 38-32 lead. Dentmon has spurred the run with a three-pointer, a long jumper and a mid-range jumper. He has seven points during the spurt.
HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Pondexter is noticeably absent. He has just 2 points on four attempts. Washington is dominating the glass (28-16), but has yet to turn the extra possessions into many points. UW is lucky Asprilla is in foul trouble because he’s a monster. He has six points.
The Huskies are getting good looks at the basket, but they’re just not converting shots. Not sure what else Romar can do. Brockman is being smothered in the paint. Not only is he dealing with the 7-footer, but FIU is sending an extra player in the pain to harass him when he gets the ball.
This game looks tailor made for Thomas. He’s getting into the lane whenever he wants, but he’s creating shots for himself. He has just one assist.
SOME QUICK STATS — thomas leads all scoreres with 12 points on 3-for-8 shooting. He’s 6 for 6 at the line. Dentmon has 7 points and Brockman 4 on 2-for-6 shooting. UW is 21.9 percent (7 of 32) from the field, including 1 for 8 on three pointers. The Huskies have 11 turnovers. Hicks leads FIU with 8 points. The Golden Panthers are 10 for 29 on FGs (34.5 percent).
HALFTIME — UW trails 26-25.
NO TV TONIGHT — Just saw a comment. KJR 950 AM is broadcasting the game.
WALLACE CHECKS IN — Artem Wallace didn’t play in the last game, but he makes an appearance with a little over five minutes left.
CORRECTION — My bad on Suggs. He just checked in with a little over seven minutes left.
TOUGH NIGHT (AGAIN) FOR THOMAS — The much-hyped freshman is struggling early on from the field. He’s sank just one of five shots. But in fairness, no one has the hot hand. UW is 5 for 21, which is a 23.8 percentage.
IT’S GETTING HEATED — Asprilla is a character. He’s got a bit of a temper. He pushed a UW player and picked up a technical foul. Then FIU coach Sergio Rouco flared up on the sideline and he got hit wtih a technical. Aprilla has three fouls and has lef the game. UW leads 17-16 with 8:32 left.
CRISIS AVERTED — Dentmon is back in and he sank a three-pointer. UW leads 13-12 with 10:52 left.
OFFENSE STALLED — By my unofficial count, the Huskies have failed to score on nine straight possessions. Overton committed a pair of turnovers, Joe Wolfinger front rimmed two three-pointers and Brockman had a layup blocked.
SUBS — Brockman handled Hicks, however, backup freshman forward Freddy Asprilla. The kid is 6-10 and active. He has four points. UW trails 12-10 with 12:39 left.
TOUGH MATCHUP FOR BROCKMAN — The UW big man has his hands full with 7-footer Hicks. UW leads 4-0 with 18:38 left.
Florida International
F — Nikola Gacesa

PRE-GAME NOTES — Bob Condotta has the night off and Percy Allen is covering the game.
With the arena sprinkled fans, the UW ran on the court for early warm-ups while “Bring On The Huskies” blared over the loudspeakes. Check that. Not everyone ran on the court. Matthew Bryan-Amaning is dressed in a spiffy black pinstripe suit and will not play tonight. He’s still recovering from a leg injury. Freshman guard Scott Suggs is also in street clothes and unavailable.
There should be a small (no pun intended) change in the lineup. Isaiah Thomas is expected to return to the starting lineup in place of Venoy Overton. Thomas missed Tuesday’s start because he was late to a game-day shootaround.
Quick observations. Florida International has a 7-footer in Russell Hicks, but otherwise, the Golden Panthers look small. Only three players have any real size.
