Some interesting numbers

UW coach Lorenzo Romar likes to say that he doesn’t let one game unduly influence his thoughts on anything, preferring to wait to see if trends develop.
Six games, to be fair, may not be enough time to call anything a trend.
But the NCAA makes stats available, even at this early point in the season, and what they show seem to be a fair representation of what we have seen to date.
For instance, the Huskies are No. 1 in the nation in rebound margin, outrebounding teams by a whopping 15.7 per game. Anyone who has seen UW play this year knows that rebounding is one of UW’s strengths. The Huskies, for instance, had an astounding 44-20 rebounding edge against Pacific, , as big a reason as any why the Huskies dominated that game.
Conversely, UW is 290th in turnover margin, at minus-4.3 per game, and 274th in turnovers per game (17.3, which is last in the Pac-10) and 307th in free throw percentage (also last in the Pac-10) at 59.3 percent, all out of 330 teams nationwide.
And anyone who has seen UW play knows the Huskies weaknesses are turnovers and free throw shooting.
And a real X-factor could be 3-point shooting. UW is 288th in the nation with just 4.5 made per game, a total that is also last in the Pac-10.
It may be early. But so far, the early numbers seem pretty indicative of the team we have seen on the floor.
