EWU not on a roll coming in

Assuming the wind and snow storm don’t blow the game off the schedule, the Huskies will host Eastern Washington tomorrow night at 7 p.m.
It’s an Eastern team that had been something of an early surprise, jumping out to a 6-2 start that included a win at Portland — something the Huskies obviously couldn’t do.
But the Eagles have lost their last two, a blowout at Hawaii and a surprising home loss to Missouri-Kansas City last night. Here’s a story from the school’s website that includes a pretty frank quote from coach Kirk Earlywine about some of the players weren’t on the same page with the coaches.
Earlywine, if you recall, got the job two years ago from a field of coaching finalists that also included UW assistant Jim Shaw, who was interviewed in Cheney for the position.
Earlywine has conducted a massive makeover of the roster and among the players he has brought in is 5-7 guard Benny Valentine, a transfer from Texas Tech (gee, a guy who transferred away from Bob Knight!) who was off to a hot start, averaging more than 18 points a game, before being held to two last night.
Maybe Eastern is just reverting to form. The Eagles were picked seventh by the coaches and eighth by the media in the Big Sky pre-season polls.
