Romar would like to reschedule game

UW coach Lorenzo Romar said in a conference call with reporters today that he would like to reschedule a game against Lehigh scheduled for tomorrow, which has been postponed due to weather.
But he said it’s unlikely to happen before Jan. 1 and doesn’t know when it might take place.
“It’s very disappointing when you are prepared to go out and play and take an exam, so to speak,” he said.
Romar said Lehigh left New Jersey last night on a commercial flight and was in the air for two hours before the pilots were told they wouldn’t be able to land at SeaTac due to the weather.
“They were in the air, on the way,” Romar said. “So we definitely cannot fault Lehigh for not being able to get here.”
Instead of playing tomorrow, Romar said UW will practice, possibly having an intrasquad scrimmage, and then the players will be released for Christmas break before returning on Dec. 26 to prepare for a Dec. 28 game against Montana.
Romar said he’d like to reschedule the game, noting that every win can help for the purposes of getting in the NCAA Tournament. He said he would be willing to play it during the Pac-10 season, if necessary.
He said it was “premature” to know whether it would be possible to line up against someone else instead, though one problem there is that most, if not virtually all, teams are already scheduled to their limit of allowable games. (Teams are allowed 27 games plus a pre-season tournament, or 29 without a pre-season tournament. UW has 31 thanks to playing in the CBE Classic).
Also, he said there is still no definitive decision on Tyreese Breshers and said again that Devin Aguilar has not turned out for the team, which almost certainly would seem to mean Aguilar won’t be playing basketball this season.
EASTERN UPDATE — And since we may have left you hanging with the post the other day on Eastern getting stuck here after the game, the official word from the school’s sports information director is that the team was able to get rooms at a hotel in Bellevue Saturday night and bus back to Cheney yesterday, though it wasn’t easy — the trip apparently took seven-and-a-half hours.
Eastern is back in action tonight against Evergreen State, a game apparently still on.
