My Top 25

We’re about to start getting into the heart of college basketball season, and none too soon in my book.
A holiday week with few marquee matchups meant not a lot of change in the Top 25.
The most significant development was Gonzaga’s home loss to Portland State.
I dropped the Zags to 19 as a result, which may seem a little harsh. But suddenly, Gonzaga has three losses and has lost three of four. Gonzaga is the only team in the rankings with that many losses, and while GU has unquestionably played a tough schedule, two of the losses are to unranked teams, one at home. I see the coaches were just about as harsh as Gonzaga as the Bulldogs are 17th in that poll this week.
I also moved UCLA up a bit. The Bruins didn’t play anybody good this week, but I watched them a couple times and they seem to be hitting their stride a bit, and just in time for Pac-10 play.
Here are my complete rankings this week:
1, North Carolina
2, Connecticut
3, Pitt
4, Oklahoma
5, Duke
6, Wake Forest
7, Purdue
8, Minnesota
9, Michigan State
10, Louisville
11, Villanova
12, UCLA
13, Syracuse
14, Notre Dame
15, Texas
16, Georgetown
17, Tennessee
18, Baylor
19, Gonzaga
20, Arizona State
21, Clemson
22, Marquette
23, Dayton
24, Butler
25, Xavier
