Can MBA keep it going?

The biggest revelation of the last month of UW basketball has been the play of sophomore big man Matthew Bryan-Amaning.
I wrote a little bit about that in my preview story for today’s game. But while MBA has been impressive of late, the real test of his progress begins Saturday when the Huskies open Pac-10 play in Pullman.
As noted in the story, however, UW coaches think there’s a lot of substance to his recent numbers, pointing out that the Huskies played a lot of the same teams a year ago and didn’t put up these kinds of stats then.
In a quote that didn’t make it in the story, UW assistant Paul Fortier talked about why he thinks MBA will be able to keep this run going.
“We’ve worked on all those things as far as positioning, keeping it simple, don’t draft that foot,” Fortier said. “At the same time, he’s continued to condition and he’s getting older and maturing the right way. He has the athleticism, the intelligence. Now it’s just a matter of continuing to do it and believing in himself that ‘I can do it’ and be able to say that ‘hey, it doesn’t matter if it’s in the Pac-10 or wherever. I can do the same thing.”’
As with the rest of his teammates, MBA will be looking for one final solid outing tonight to take some momentum into Pac-10 play.
I’ll have more later from the arena.
