Gameday readings

I type this from Spokane where all I can say is that if you think we’ve gotten snow on our side of the state, you don’t know snow.
But they also have the roads cleared here and it’s nice and sunny this morning, so we’re hoping for problem-free trek down to Pullman from here.
I was getting ready to link a few stories on today’s game when I saw that Vince Grippi, as is usually the case on these things, had beaten me to it. So I’ll just link to the Spokesman-Review’s SportsLink where you can get all the stories on today’s game.
I will, however, also link to my preview for today. As you can read, Lorenzo Romar says he’s more concerned with beginning Pac-10 play 1-0 than ending that seven-game losing streak to the Cougars.
And he’s got a bit of a point about how big this game could be for UW from a conference standpoint. Win this one, and the Huskies could get off to a pretty decent start with home games next week against Stanford and Cal then a road trip to the Oregon schools — all of those games are winnable.
Then the schedule gets tough, with USC and UCLA at home and road trips to Arizona and the Bay Area. The Huskies probably need to take at least a winning record into that six-game stretch to realistically get to 10-11 Pac-10 wins this year, and beating the Cougars today would go a long way in that quest.
More later from the arena.
