My Top 25

Another Monday, another Top 25.
No change at the top this week, but a change at No. 2 as I moved Wake Forest in there ahead of Duke after WFU’s win over North Carolina last night, a game it had pretty good control of down the stretch.
Each of the three Pac-10 teams I have ranked — UCLA, Cal and Arizona State — moved up a spot or two after getting sweeps (or in UCLA’s case, winning the one game it played) and taking advantage of some losses to teams above it. Both UCLA and ASU seem to really be hitting a good stride right now.
New additions or returns at the bottom include Michigan and South Carolina.
South Carolina is the only SEC team in my poll and I’m not sure any others are deserved (Tennessee had been in the poll but lost its second game this year to Gonzaga, this one at home, and fell out of mine, anyway). Even South Carolina is a little bit of a stretch, having played a schedule that has a SOS (strength of schedule) rating of 270, which is unfortunately a little too typical of teams in that league. Only two teams in the SEC have SOS’s above 152.
Louisville, meanwhile, finally rewarded my faith by winning at Villanova. Big week for Louisville with games against Notre Dame (tonight) and Pitt. In fact, several good Big East matchups this week (Georgetown-Syracuse Wednesday) that will provide some further shakeup of the poll.
Here’s my complete ballot:
1, Pitt
2, Wake Forest
3, Duke
4, Connecticut
5, Oklahoma
6, Michigan State
7, North Carolina
8, UCLA
9, Syracuse
10, Minnesota
11, Clemson
12, Notre Dame
13, Texas
14, Marquette
15, Georgetown
16, Cal
17, Louisville
18, Butler
19, Arizona State
20, Xavier
21, Purdue
22, Villanova
23, Baylor
24, Michigan
25, South Carolina
