Cleaning up the Oregon Trail

I’m wrapping up a little story on the WSU-Oregon game, having had time to get to that contest this morning before heading north to Corvallis for the Husky game tonight.
Don’t worry — I realize this is a Husky blog so I won’t bore you with much from that contest.
However, a reader asked if the Huskies and Cougars have ever each swept the Oregon trip in the same year, something that is now just a UW win in a few hours away from happening.
If my research is correct, it’s been a really long time.
In fact, the only such occurrence I could find was the 1928-29 season, though it’s not even an exactly comparable situation. With travel and other aspects of the game being a lot different in that era, the schedules weren’t like they are now. So WSU went to Oregon and beat both schools one weekend, then UW did it the next weekend. Also, in some years back then, the schools would play multiple games down there.
Still, what it points out is both the difficulty of winning two games in one weekend on the road, and the fact that the Cougars and Huskies have rarely been really good in basketball at the same time.
