More retiring moments

With the day of Brandon Roy’s jersey retirement finally here, a few more notes and quotes:
— His number, 3, will be retired by the school in a short ceremony before the game, in the period between the National Anthem and tipoff. So you may want to be in your seats by 7:45 p.m. or so.
— You will be able to watch the ceremony live on GoHuskies.com. Not sure what will be shown on TV as FSN will have the UCLA-WSU preceding the Husky game, though I would imagine at least a few clips or whatever will be aired.
— Roy will appear at Niketown in downtown Seattle at 3 p.m. today to “celebrate his jersey retirement” according to a press release.
— So what’s your favorite Brandon Roy moment? UW coach Lorenzo Romar mentioned two this week —- his first practice with the team when he finally became eligible in Jan. 2003 and picked up the offense “in 45 minutes”; and the Arizona game his senior year when he hit two buzzer beating shots to force two overtimes before the Wildcats finally pulled it out. My favorite would probably be the second half against Illinois in the second round tourney game in 2006 when he and the team’s other three seniors just willed that team to a win over Illinois, Roy leading the way with 21 points.
— Romar pointed out on his radio show last night that the retirement of Roy’s jersey will have an immediate impact — the prize recruit for next year, Abdul Gaddy, wears No. 3 at Bellarmine Prep. Romar said Gaddy has instead asked for No. 0 next season since 3 won’t be available.
I’ll be back later with keys to the game and tonight’s picks.
