Not sure how I missed these two stories. Guess I need to read my newspaper more closely.
Anyway, this one is intriguing and sure to cause some debate. Times reporter Nick Perry examines a new bill in the house that would prohibit favoritism in enrollment as the UW turns away potential new students.
— Here’s the link to the story.
— Also, this story by Times reporter Andrew Garber was mentioned in an earlier post. Not sure just yet how it will affect the UW’s bid to elicit taxpayer help on renovations to Husky Stadium, but if the state receives the $3.5 to $4.5 billion in federal money, then I found this paragraph in the article to be very intriguing.
“Congress will likely require the money be spent on things such as school construction, new highways, special education, unemployment benefits and health care. The strings attached to the federal money could limit how much those funds ease the state budget shortfall. It’s possible, for example, that with federal money in hand, some state programs would end up with an increase in funding while others suffer cuts.”
All for now.
