Tonight’s picks

So I’m writing this sitting on an airplane that is stuck on the runway at SeaTac due to “weather” in San Francisco. Assuming they mean inclement weather of some kind, and not sunny skies, though the happy stewardess didn’t say.
Anyway, figured I’d better get my picks posted since I have no idea when I’ll get anywhere, but also wanted to explain that these may not be my most exhaustively researched selections given the circumstances.
On with the picks.
WASHINGTON AT CAL (pick ’em): Those looking for the “reverse karma” of my pick may be disappointed with this one. The Huskies and Cal played 55 enthralling minutes of basketball three weeks ago in which ultimately, the Bears proved three points better. But UW had more chances to win that game than Mickey Rooney had wives. And since then, the two teams have taken opposite paths, UW winning five of six, Cal losing four of five. The Huskies also seem to be on the kind of roll they haven’t been since late in the 2006 season and often seem to be playing better on the road — they are 4-1 in road conference games winning each by 13 points or more. It may not be as decisive tonight, but UW will get it done. WASHINGTON 78, CAL 71.
WASHINGTON STATE AT STANFORD (Cardinal by 4): WSU won a one-point game with the Cardinal in Pullman last month, one of three last-second losses for Stanford on the road. That seemed to catch up to the Cardinal in a blowout loss at UCLA last Saturday, making this something of a last-stand for Stanford to make anything of this season. Home court makes the difference in this one. STANFORD 65, WSU 59.
ARIZONA STATE AT OREGON (Sun Devils by 10-and-a-half): Ducks are 0-9 and seem to be regressing. Still, the Ducks are too talented to go 0-18, aren’t they? They figure to win a game or two somewhere. And the way ASU played last weekend seems to make them a ripe target. On the other hand, that may also serve as a wakeup call, especially for James Harden, who has to have realized that he has to score for the Sun Devils to be any good. So expect a big game out of Harden and yet another Oregon defeat. ASU 77, OREGON 68.
ARIZONA AT OREGON STATE (Wildcats by 5-and-a-half): A meeting of two of the hottest teams in the conference — OSU has won four in a row including a non-conference victory. This looms as maybe the key game in Arizona’s season. After winning three in a row (including a win over Houston) the Wildcats can get right back on the NCAA Tourney map with a sweep in Oregon — and this looks like the tougher of the two to get. Assuming Chase Budinger stays on his recent roll, Arizona should survive. ARIZONA 71, OSU 63.
SEASON RECORD: 31-14.
