My Top 25

Another tough — if normal for this time of year — week for teams in the Top 25 as 14 suffered at least one loss.
That means a lot of shuffling around, and even a few teams dropping out of my poll (that means you, Syracuse and Purdue).
As for the Huskies, they fell five spots in my rankings after the loss to Cal, but they stayed in it by winning at Stanford — as I said, 14 teams lost this week, so a split of two games in three days on the road isn’t worth dropping out of the poll in my book. One team I thought seriously about was Cal and the fact it has now beaten UW twice. But this is getting to the time of year where total body-of-work starts to mean more than just head-to-head, and for now, I think Washington’s stands a little taller.
UCLA moved up seven spots in my rankings after two dominating wins over formerly ranked teams in USC and Notre Dame (speaking of the Trojans, they fell out of my poll, moving Arizona State back in).
I’m sure one of my more controversial decisions was leaving Gonzaga at No. 25. I moved up Memphis three spots after the way the Tigers blasted the Zags in Spokane, and moved Gonzaga down five. But the Zags have been dominant in their conference of late and that game might have said a lot about Memphis, which seems to really be finding itself. So for now, the Zags remain in, but on notice.
Here is my complete poll for this week:
1, Connecticut
2, Oklahoma
3, North Carolina
4, Pitt
5, Duke
6, Louisville
7, Marquette
8, Wake Forest
9, Michigan State
10, Villanova
11, Memphis
12, UCLA
13, Kansas
14, Butler
15, Xavier
16, Clemson
17, LSU
18, Illinois
19, Ohio State
20, Missouri
21, Florida
22, Washington
23, Florida State
24, Arizona State
25, Gonzaga
