Ranking the Pac

A little late this week, but here they are. …
, Washington — 10-3 record ties best start after 13-games in the Pac-10 era. The 1984, 1986 and 2005 teams were also 10-3 after 13 games. The ’84 team finished 15-3, the ’85 team 13-5 and the 2005 team 14-4.
, Arizona State — Finally getting a little bit of help from guys like Derek Glasser and Jamelle McMillan. Next two games — Arizona, at UW — figure to make-or-break Pac-10 title hopes, but NCAA tourney bid again seems secure.
, Cal — Nice rally against Stanford, and nice comeback from mid-season slump which looked like it might knock Bears out of March Madness. Cal has now won three in a row and gets the Oregon schools on the road. But don’t write those W’s in pen just yet — Cal lost at home to Oregon State and beat the Ducks by just seven.
, Arizona — No hotter team right now in the conference. Chase Budinger averaging 20.4 points, 8 rebounds and 4.3 assists during seven-game winning streak, and UA scoring 82.6 points in that span.
, UCLA — Really could have (should have?) won the ASU game and Arizona is simply hot right now. So the two losses last weekend may say as much about the two Arizona schools as UCLA. We’ll find out for certain Thursday against the Huskies.
, USC — An awful lot of talent may be sitting out March Madness unless the Trojans get busy in a hurry. Ominously for USC, Dwight Lewis is again struggling with an ankle injury.
, Oregon State — Only UW, ASU and UCLA have more Pac-10 road wins than OSU’s three.
, Washington State — But it’s possible Cougars may not win again considering road games at USC, UCLA and UW and home games against Arizona and Arizona State.
, Stanford — Still trying hard, but crushing loss at Cal could be difficult to overcome. Game at Oregon Saturday could be Ducks’ best chance for a win.
, Oregon — From Elite Eight to 0-18 in two years?
