USC-Arizona State to play for Pac-10 tourney title

USC has just finished upsetting UCLA and will play Arizona State tomorrow at 3:15 for the Pac-10 tournament title.
In the process, the Trojans will try to become the first six seed — and the first lower than five — to win the tournament. They are also trying to become the first team that wouldn’t have made the tournament without winning the Pac-10 tourney title to capture the conference’s automatic bid.
Obviously that would make the Trojans the big winner of this tournament as USC has been in danger of wasting an awful lot of talent this season.
The big loser could be Arizona — the Wildcats seem on the outside anyway but no way they get a bid if USC wins the automatic berth plus the four teams that are solid entries.
Another winner of this could be Washington State. The Cougars are worried that the NIT might not want three teams from the Pac-10. But if USC gets into the NCAAs, that would leave Arizona and WSU as the most realistic teams for the NIT to invite and increase the odds that the Cougars would get in.
