More Monday night links, notes

Links compiled while trying to stay off my feet to rest up. …
— I wrote a little profile of Jarvis Varnado for tomorrow’s paper, talking to him for a while on the phone today. He didn’t say much but seemed like a nice enough guy. For the inevitable criticism I’ll get for writing about the opponent, we always think there are people out there who want to know a little about the other team, so I tried to do that a bit in this story. We’ll have lots of Husky stories the next few days.
Bud Withers of our staff has this column with a few notes and quotes, including the fact that UW and Gonzaga are staying in the same hotel in Portland.
— Here are a bunch of picks from Rivals.com and one of their experts, Mike Huguenin, picks the Huskies to go to the Final Four. Huguenin’s a long-time college sports reporter who worked for The Sporting News for quite a while.
— Okay, I’ll admit I didn’t watch this, but here’s a video from MSNBC.com headined “Surprise Out West?” with a picture of Jon Brockman. So not sure if the surprise is the Huskies, or the Huskies getting beat, or what.
— Speaking of Brockman, Bob Rondeau revealed on Lorenzo Romar’s coaches show tonight that Brockman broke his nose in the ASU game. Apparently it happened pretty early when Brockman took a shot (a clean one) from James Harden, though no one knew it at the time. Brockman had the nose reset on the sidelines and came back in the game, though he was out for six minutes in the first half — he played 31 for the game. Romar said Brockman is fine and practiced without a mask or any protective device today.
All for now.
