Pac-10 ref in Final Four

One interesting aspect of the Final Four is seeing who gets the call to officiate. The ones who get there do so by receiving high ratings during the year, and usually there is one official from each of the major conferences.
The Pac-10 was represented yesterday by Scott Thornley, who was the lead guy for the North Carolina-Villanova game.
Thornley’s a regular Pac-10 ref who also does Mountain West games.
He did four UW games this season — the home game against Oklahoma State when he was the lead guy, and road games at WSU, Oregon and Cal (he was the lead guy in Berkeley).
Dick Cartmell and Verne Harris were other Pac-10 officials who worked deep into the tournament. Cartmell did games as late as the Sweet 16 and Harris the Elite Eight (and who knows who will show up for tomorrow’s national title game).
And remember Tom O’Neill, the Big Ten ref who made some of the calls UW fans found most egregious against Purdue? If he got low marks for that, it didn’t prevent him from continuing to work in the tournament as he was also the lead guy for the Villanova-Pitt Elite Eight game.
