Coaching murmurs

A few coaching rumors to pass along:
— Word is that Seattle University is indeed making a run at UW assistant Cameron Dollar. One of the favorites for that job is thought to be Highline CC coach Che Dawson, who was a four-year letterman at Seattle U before entering coaching (he was also Erroll Knight’s high school coach). Among the concerns of any coach considering the Seattle U job, especially those already with D-I jobs like Dollar, would be the salary Seattle U may want to pay as well as its long road to becoming a full member of Division-I. The school won’t be eligible for the NCAA Tournament until 2013. UW assistant Jim Shaw is thought not in the mix for the Seattle U. job.
— Rumor is also that Portland State may have already contacted UW about talking with Dollar and/or Shaw, who was also a candidate for the job in 2005 when it went to another UW assistant, Ken Bone, who yesterday accepted the head coaching job at WSU, creating another opening. Shaw has a lot of experience and contacts in Oregon having played at Western Oregon State and spending two years as an assistant at Chemeketa CC and Oregon State and five at Portland. However, PSU might offer less money than Dollar — UW’s highest-paid assistant — is making at UW. Bone recently received a raise to $125,000 but the school may offer less than that to a new coach. Dollar’s making roughly that at UW. And it’s also thought that PSU is leaning heavily toward giving the job to associate head coach Tyler Geving.
— It is thought that Bone is likely to ask assistant Curtis Allen, who played at UW, to follow him to WSU.
All for now.
