Playing catch-up

Been mostly out of the mix the last two days but wanted to catch you up on a couple of things. …
— Scout.com reported today that Vashon High big man John Gage has committed to Stanford, the timing being that he finally had his application accepted. Gage had also been considering UW and Cal, though he had long been thought to be favoring Stanford. Gage’s commitment came on the heels of Bellevue High’s Aaron Bright announcing Friday he would attend Stanford, giving the Cardinal a pretty good start to a Class of 2010 regarded as critical for the future of head coach Johnny Dawkins.
— The Las Vegas Summer League ends tomorrow, but two ex-Huskies playing in it are already done. Jon Brockman concluded his summer league play averaging 5.4 points and 9.2 rebounds, He had 15 rebounds in his final game Friday. Will Conroy, attempting to make Houston’s roster as a free agent, finished averaging 7.2 points and three assists per game. Bobby Jones, attempting to make Portland’s roster as a free agent, has one game left Sunday night and is averaging 8.8 points and 3.8 rebounds.
Jon Wilner of the San Jose Mercury News has an interesting All-Decade Pac-10 men’s basketball team. Only one UW player on the three five-man teams selected — Brandon Roy, who is on the first team. He says Brockman and Nate Robinson just missed the cut.
All for now.
