Huskies to play Georgetown in Wooden Classic

We wrote a few weeks ago that the Huskies were likely to play Georgetown in the Wooden Classic in Anaheim in December, and the tournament rather quietly has made an official announcement of it.
Here’s a link to the tournament’s official site with the news of the UW-Georgetown matchup, which will be the first game the Huskies have ever played against the Hoyas. The game is set for Dec. 12, 2009 and part of a doubleheader that will also feature UCLA and Mississippi State.
The game also rounds out UW’s schedule for next season, which can be found here.
UW will play 12 non-conference games and will be heavy favorites in nine of them. So the success or failure of UW’s non-conference schedule will depend on how it does in three games against big-name opponents — one at home against Texas A&M, one on the road at Texas Tech and one on a neutral court against the Hoyas.
UW last played in the Wooden Classic in 2005 when the Huskies beat New Mexico State during the senior year for Brandon Roy, Bobby Jones and crew.
Georgetown also made an official announcement of the game today. As that story notes, the Hoyas have three starters back from last year’s team that began the season highly ranked before struggling and ending up in the post-season NIT, where it lost in the first round to Baylor.
