Tony Wroten suffers season-ending knee injury

Garfield High junior baskeball sensation Tony Wroten Jr., who went out for football this season, suffered a season-ending knee injury in the opener two weeks ago.
And if that’s the extent of the injury, then that might be the good news because Wroten told his football coach Anthony Allen he tore his ACL, which will need surgery and force him to miss the 2009-10 boys basketball season.
Here’s a link to our story in the Times.
Speculation about the seriouness of the injury rose last week when Wroten didn’t play in the second game against Inglemoor. The injury was originally believed to be a bruise and observers didn’t think it was serious because he’s been walking without a limp or crutches or anything like that.
When he missed last Friday’s game against Roosevelt, speculation rose even higher.
There’s still some uncertainty if Wroten will have surgery. I spoke with Allen, who was told by Wroten that he will have the surgery. But Allen didn’t hear that from a trainer, doctor or Wroten’s parents so he’s not 100 percent sure if surgery will be option the family chooses.
If Wroten does have surgery, a normal recovery is 7-9 months.
Obviously, Wroten will have time to return for his senior year, but not sure how this will affect his recruiting. Wroten was a top-5 junior prospect according to ESPN.com and the Huskies were on his list. I’m told coach Lorenzo Romar has been in contact with Wroten and his family.
