Washington state tourney: UW, Zags, WSU and Seattle U.

A reader asked why doesn’t Washington, Gonzaga, Washington State and Seattle University play a min-tournament either in the pre-season or during conference play when the schedule allows?
They could play for the Washington state title, right?
Well, no.
I spoke with Redhawks athletic director Bill Hogan this morning and he said the Pac-10 wouldn’t likely sanction that type of a pre-season tournament because it would involve two conference schools. And doing it during conference play presents logistical problems.
“What you’re talking about probably wouldn’t happen,” he said. “For starters, (Washington State) and Gonzaga wouldn’t want to give up two home dates.”
Still, Hogan has engaged in very preliminary talks about organizing a Northwest triple-header at KeyArena that would include the state’s Division I teams, including Eastern Washington.
A possible schedule: Eastern Washington vs. Portland or Idaho, followed by Washington State vs. Seattle University and Washington vs. Gonzaga.
