Josh Smith didn’t sign with UCLA today

Before heading home, thought I’d post one more blog for the day.
I kept waiting to see Kentwood High center Josh Smith on the lists of recruits who signed today and never saw his name. It turns out Smith, who gave an oral commitment to UCLA on Monday, hasn’t signed with the Bruins … Yet.
Not exactly sure why, but Jon Gold at the LA Daily News says “he remains a hard, hard, hard verbal” and speculates Smith is waiting while the school plans a ceremony for him.
INTERESTING TIDBIT ON UW RECRUIT TERRENCE JONES:
— Noticed that seven of the top 16 recruits rated by ESPN.com, including Jones, have yet to pick a school and may until the spring signing period.
A Pac-10 coach told me it’s not uncommon for the top guys to wait until the spring because they’re so good, schools will keep a scholarship for them.
Also stay tuned on Jones and I think we’ll have more information about his status this week.
HERE’S A QUICK LOOK AROUND THE PAC-10 AND SOME OF THE RECRUITS WHO SIGNED:

AND ONE LAST NOTE:
— Posted this early in the week, but in case you missed it. Coach Lorenzo Romar and former UW quarterback Tom Flick are the keynote speakers at the Athletes in Action Breakfast 7:30 a.m. Thursday at the Don James Center located on the north side of Husky Stadium.
And if you’re planning to attend any of the AIA games this weekend at Edmundson Pavilion, organizers are asking fans to bring packages of new, thick-soled socks, which will be distributed to needy individuals in the Seattle/Tacoma area.
