Some thoughts on UW from Arizona

The Arizona Rebublic’s Doug Haller does a good job covering Arizona State and each week he publishes a Pac-10 men’s basketball power ranking.
Here’s the latest edition.
Haller ranks Washington third behind No. 1 California and No. 2 Washington State.
On the Huskies, Haller writes: “Don’t let the 74-66 final against Georgetown fool you. The Huskies trailed by 20 with 14 minutes left. Something just doesn’t seem right about this team, and it has nothing to do with the level of competition. Five minutes into the second half, Cal State Northridge led Washington 48-47 on Dec. 6. Northridge ended up playing the Huskies even in the second half.”

— If you haven’t read it yet, check out Bob Condotta’s story on Seattle University star Charles Garcia, the former UW recruit. It seems he’ll have an interesting decision similar to Jake Locker to make when the season ends.
SBNation.com keeps a running tally on the Big-12/Pac-10 Hardwood series. The Big-12 leads 9-2.
— It’s a little old, but Todd Dybas at the Seattlepi.com caught up with former UW star Jon Brockman in Portland earlier this week.
— Also a little dated, but Jim Basnight at MyNorthwest.com makes an interesting comparison between Isaiah Thomas and Hall of Fame guard Calvin Murphy.
Basnight writes: “(Thomas) needs to put all of his mental and physical energy towards his free throw shooting, three point shooting and most importantly passing out of his circus act. If he can accomplish this, he may have a functional career in the NBA in a role similar to what Calvin Murphy carved out by sheer determination.”
