Portland game thread

TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY — Sorry for being away so long. My laptop crashed for awhile. Final score: UW 89-54.
PONDEXTER, THOMAS OUT, SHERRER IN — You know it’s over when Brendan Sherrer hits the court. Pondexter had 17 points, Thomas had 16 and a season-high 8 assists. UW 82-52.
SLOWING DOWN ON THE GAME THREAD — The outcome is no longer in doubt. Heck, it was probably decided midway in the first half. Anyway, I got to slow down on the thread and write the game story. With less than four minutes left, UW 79-50.
FOR THE HIGHLIGHTS — Thomas lofted an alley-oop pass at the rim and Pondexter caught the ball and flushed it for a dunk that brought the house down. Big play. Momentum turner. Portland time out. UW 75-41.
SUGGS AGAIN — Suggs drained another three-pointer. He has a career-high 13. UW 64-41.
IT’S DOWN TO 20 — Taishi Ito sank a trey over Gaddy to cut UW’s lead to 20. UW 61-41.
PILOTS IN THE BONUS — With 12 minutes left, Portland will shoot free throws on every foul. UW has seven fouls, Portland 1. Suggs sank another big shot with the clock winding down. UW 61-38.
SUGGS TO THE RESCUE — Suggs’ pressure forced a turnover (Portland’s 16th) and he raced in for a layup Overton-style. UW 59-36.
ALL RESERVES AND BRYAN-AMANING — Romar is looking for a spark. UW 57-35.
BIG BLOCK — The Pilots were looking to turn a UW turnover into points when Smeulders streaked for layup that was blocked by Overton and Breshers. Not sure who got the credit. UW 55-30.
PORTLAND RUN — The Pilots are on a 9-2 run. UW has stopped playing aggressive defense and it’s allowing Portland to get into the lane. UW 55-30.
HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Best first half of the season. UW has scored more points (Portland State and Belmont), but it hasn’t shut down an opponent like it’s doing tonight. The previous first half low for a UW opponent was 28 (Wright State). That’s not including the exhibition when it held Central Washington to 18. The Husky defense is stifling. The Pilots have drawn two clock violations and often looked frazzled just to get off a good shot. On the offensive end, the Huskies have 17 field goals and 11 assists. They’ve shared the ball and the offense has never looked better.
HALFTIME STATS — UW: Thomas 12 points, Overton 11, Pondexter 8 and Suggs 6. UW is shooting .486 (17 of 35) from the field, .600 (6 of 10) on three-pointers and .700 (7 of 10) on free throws. UW has two turnovers, two blocks and six steals.
Portland: Ravio 6 points, Knutson 5. Portland is .267 (4 of 15) from the field, .000 (0 for 5) on treys and .563 (9 for 16) on free throws. Portland has 12 turnovers, 1 block and 1 steal.
HEADED FOR A BLOWOUT — UW is doing everything right and the body language from the Pilots is terrible. They look beaten and we’ve got 3:25 left in the first half. This could get ugly if the Huskies don’t let up defensively. UW 38-13.
ALL UW — Turner stole a pass and passed to Overton for a layup. He score despite being fouled and sank the free throw. Before the play, Suggs and Turner hit three-pointers. UW 36-13.
OVERTON AGAIN — Another steal. Another layup. Portland time out. The Huskies have full control of this game. UW 27-11.
ALL RESERVES — UW has a lineup of backups: Breshers, Holiday, Turner, Overton and Suggs. UW 23-11.
THOMAS IN DOUBLE FIGURES AGAIN — Thomas has reached double figures in every game this season. He has 10. UW 22-10.
GADDY’S IN FOUL TROUBLE — It’s just difficult for Gaddy to stay in the game. He’s got three fouls with 9:10 left in the first half. Thomas is shooting well. he’s 3 of 4, including 3 treys. UW 21-10.
TRANSITION BUCKETS — UW burned Portland when it missed a three-pointer, Thomas grabbed the long rebound and passed to Pondexter for a breakaway dunk. UW 18-8.
SLOWING DOWN — After a quick start, Washington’s offense has stalled a bit. UW is scoreless on five possessions and it’s missed four straight shots. UW 16-7.
OVERTON GOES TO WORK — Overton picked Campbell in the open court, drove to the basket and scored a layup despite being fouled. He missed the ensuing free throw. UW 16-2.
GOOD DEFENSE — The Huskies have forced five turnovers in the first five minutes. UW 12-2.
GREAT START — UW is off to a fantastic start. Pondexter has four points and he’s found holes in the zone. Thomas made a nice assists and the Huskies are making it difficult for Portland to get into its offense. UW 9-2.
FIRST SUBS — Scott Suggs, Venoy Overton, Justin Holiday and Tyreese Breshers are in. Every starter leaves except Thomas. UW 9-2.
PORTLAND ZONE — The Pilots went to a 2-3 zone and Thomas shot over the top for a three-poitner. UW 5-2.
STARTING LINEUP — Big changes for UW. Gaddy, Gant, Isaiah Thomas, Matthew Bryan-Amaning and Quincy Pondexter.
F Ethan Niedermeyer
F Robin Smeulders
C Kramer Knutson
G Nik Raivio
G T.J. Campbell
TEXAS A&M — The Aggies, UW’s next opponent on Tuesday, is easily handling the Citadel. Joe Wolfinger, the former Husky, has four points for the Citadel. Texas A&M leads 33-11 at halftime.
STARTING LINEUP CHANGES — I’m hearing there’s going to be a shakeup in the starting lineup. I’m told Abdul Gaddy and Darnell Gant wills start tonight. Not sure who’s sitting, but I’d assume it’s Venoy Overton and Elston Turner.
ON TV — Anyone in the Seattle and Portland area can find the game on FSN. Tom Glasgow and Francis Williams are the announcers. Brad Adams has the sideline reports.
FREE ONLINE RADIO — The Portland Pilots provide a link to listen to tonight’s game. Haven’t found a online video link yet.
GOOD DAY FOR THE PAC-10 — Considering the way this season has gone, it’s been a banner day for the conference after wins by USC and Arizona State. And it looks like WSU is headed for a win. Stanford fell to Northwestern and UCLA lost at Notre Dame.
