Lorenzo Romar not sure what to expect from Huskies

Thought I’d pass along a few notes from the Pac-10 men’s basketball coaches teleconference that just concluded.
Coach Lorenzo Romar was candid when asked if he believes UW has the mental toughness to overcome its 1-3 conference start.
“We will find out,” he said. “We will see. I don’t know what to expect, but I know we’ll do everythign we can to make sure we have that direction. And we’ll find out.”

(What is the mood of the team right now?)
“Maybe more where you hit a real low to where you start realizing that each individual and everyone, the coaching staff, players, managers, everyone has to step up.”

(What do you remember about the triple overtime loss to Cal last year?)
“Several things. It was a good game. It was a thriller that was the most memorable thing. There were some plays that sent the game into overtime that I don’t have fond memories of.”

(Do you think being home will be a remedy?)
“I certainly hope so. We played against Oregon at home and it didn’t seem to help our guys at that point. Our fans were good, but we just didn’t respond like we probably should have. It’s definitely better to come back home, then to have to go on the road again.”

(What’s your impressions of Stanford?)
“They are really together and they are playing with a purpose on the offense and defensive end. They role players know that they’re role players. The scorers know that they’re scorers. And they mesh well together. They understand what is a good shot and not a good shot. They understand what they have to do to be successful and they don’t deviate from it.”
