Arizona game thread

IT’S OVER — UW 81-75. I’ll detail the final minutes in the post-game wrap-up.
SLOWING DOWN — Got to slow down on the thread and write the game story. There’s 5:42 left.
PONDEXTER DOWN — Parrom elbowed Pondexter in the chest, sending the UW star to the floor. The officials are reviewing the play. UW 68-60.
3 ON 1 — Thomas led a 3-on-1 fastbreak and decided against passing and flipped in an acrobatic layup despite being fouled. He missed the ensuing layup. UW 68-58.
BRYAN-AMANING IN FOUL TROUBLE — Bryan-Amaning picked up his fourth foul and has to go to the bench. He’s being replaced by Darnell Gant. There’s 7:31 left. UW 66-57.
POURING IT ON — The Wildcats doubled teamed Pondexter on the wing and he found a cutting Holiday for a layup. UW 63-55 with 8:15 left.
WILLIAMS FOULS OUT — Williams, UA freshman phenom, fouled out with just three points. He’s played less than six minutes. He was averaging 15.9 points.
MOMENTUM WEARING PURPLE — Suggs intercepted a Lamont Jones pass and threw the ball ahead to Pondexter who flushed a breakaway jam. The crowd is going nuts. Timeout Arizona. UW 57-52.
FAN EJECTED — A fan who threw an object on the floor is being escorted out of the building by two police officers. Romar was furious. He stomped on the court and angrily gestured towards the crowd. UW 53-52.
ZONA MAKES A RUN — UW led 48-41, but now its up 48-47. The frenetic pace is also causing UW to make a few turnovers. Thomas is back in.
THE OVERTON EFFECT — The game has sped up noticeably and I got to believe it’s because of Overton. He just makes things happen, good and bad. His aggressive defense allowed Lavender to score a short floater, but Overton is constantly pushing the ball and making the Cats play at a pace that seems uncomfortable to them. Still no Thomas. UW 45-41.
TIMEOUT ARIZONA — Miller wants to quiet the crowd after Breshers flushed a two-handed dunk. Holiday made a nice pass on the score. UW 39-38.
HOLIDAY’S HARD FALL — While trying to retrieve a bad Pondexter pass, Holiday landed awkwardly. He got up rubbing his elbow. UW 39-36.
SECOND HALF — Overton is starting in place of Thomas. Thomas doesn’t appear to be hurt. UW 34-37.
HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — UW controlled most of the first half, however, Arizona finished the half strong on a 13-2 run led by Lavender who drained three three-pointers during the run. If not for him, the Huskies would hold a slim lead. Another strange offensive game for UW. Pondexter is having no problems finding good shots, but everyone else is struggling, especially Thomas who is 2 for 9.The Huskies need one or two of their role players to catch fire in the second half.
Washington did a good job of negating Wise (0) points, Wiliams (3) and Horne (2).
HALFTIME STATS — Click here.

HALFTIME — UA 37-31.
ARIZONA’S FIRST LEAD — Fogg hit a pair of free throws to give the Wildcats their first lead. Pondexter answered with a score and Brendon Lavender drained a three-pointer from the corner. UW needs to figure out real quick that he’s a shooter. UA 34-31.
SLOPPY GAME — Maybe it’s the fouls that’s thrown things out of whack, but this has been a poorly played game thus far. There’s been 27 fouls, 19 turnovers and 13 missed free throws. UW 27-24.
MORE FOULS — Seriously, this is ridiculous. With 6:56 left, there’s been 24 fouls. UW is 6 for 13 on free throws. UW 23-19.
ROMAR AND SEAN MILLER GET TECHNICALS — Looks like Arizona coach Sean Miller has picked up a technical foul. He didn’t like Romar walking on the court and talking with the refs so he walked past midcourt to get a word in. The refs also gave a T to Romar.
PAC10 REFS — With 8:40 left, UW is in the double bonus. The refs have called 19 fouls. UW has nine fouls. Somebody on press row said: “Third-grade games don’t havve this many fouls.” UW 21-19.
IS IT THE FLOOR OR THE SHOES? — For some reason, a lot of players are slipping and falling to the floor. It’s happened to Thomas, Gaddy and a couple of Zona players. Thomas looks like he’s wearing new shoes. UW 21-16.
NOW THAT’S A BIG MAN — MacCulloch is honored. The Huskies could sure use him or Williams.
CATS RUNNING — Arizona has ripped off seven unanswered points. UW 17-15.
4 on 5 — While Wise tied his shoe in the backcourt, the refs gave the ball to the Huskies and they played 4 on 5. Holiday converted a difficult short jumper despite being fouled and made the ensuing free throw. UW 17-8.
THIRD SUB — With 15:18 left, Scott Suggs is in for Thomas. UW 8-7.
SECOND SUB — With 16:30 left, Venoy Overton is in for Holiday.
FIRST SUB — With 17:12 left, Matthew Bryan-Amaning is in for Breshers.
BRESHERS’ BLOCK PARTY — Breshers rejected a layup attempt from Wise who dribbled into the lane. Seconds later, he sent a short jumper from Fogg into the front row of the stands. The Wildcats finally scored on a pair of free throws with 17:50 left. UW 6-2.
DIFFERENT THAN BEFORE — UA jumped on the UW the last time and led 13-3. This time, the Wildcats have committed two turnovers on their first three possessions. UW 5-0.
HOLIDAY’S IMMEDIATE IMPACT — Holiday, who didn’t play the last time these teams met, stole the tip. Williams outjumped Breshers, but Holiday got in there for the ball.
SUBDUED FEELING — The Huskies appear more relaxed than normal. Maybe it’s nothing. Tipoff is a minute away.
STARTERS — No change for UW: Thomas, Abdul Gaddy, Justin Holiday, Quincy Pondexter and Tyreese Breshers.
Arizona: G Kevin Parrom, F Derrick Williams, F Jamelle Horne, G kyle Fogg and G Nic Wise.
MORE SPOTTINGS — Former Sonics great Lenny Wilkens is sitting in the stands.
BACK IN WHITE — The Huskies returned to their white home jerseys. Looks like coach Lorenzo Romar passed on Isaiah Thomas’ suggestion to wear the black jerseys for every game in February. Arizona is wearing red tonight. The Wildcats switched to the road red unis about five years ago. They used to wear blue.
WILLIAMS SIGHTING — Former Husky Jamaal Williams is sitting third row across from the UW bench. He looks to be sitting with his family and holding a cute baby.
ON TV — You can find the game on FSN as usual. Steve Physioc and Marques Johnson have the call. Not sure about the a video feed for the web. If anyone knows, post a link.
BIG MAC RETURNS — UW will start recognizing its legends during the remaining home games. First up: Todd MacCulloch, who led UW to back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances in 1998 and ’99. He was a two-time first-team All-Pac-10 selection and the second person in NCAA history to lead the NCAA in field goal percentage three consecutive years.
