IT’S OVER — 79-56.
SHERRER IS IN — UW 79-53.
HEADING FOR THE EXITS — Fans are leaving. We’re nearing Dancin’ Dawgs and Bendan Sherrer territory. UW 74-50 with less than four minutes left.
SLOWING DOWN — UW is up 69-47 with 7:48 left. Barring a total collapse, the Huskies are headed to their 16th win. I gotta slow down and write the game story.
GOOD EXCHANGE — Very entertaining few minutes. Thomas hit Bryan-Amaning with a no-look pass for a two-hand dunk. Aboott drained a pair of treys. Holiday and MBA follow with a couple of nice layups. UW 53-35.
GADDY IN FOUL TROUBLE —- Gaddy has four fouls and nothing else. UW 47-27.
GOING INSIDE — Looks like ASU is going to feed Boateng in search of easy offense or he’s trying to get UW in foul trouble. Breshers has two fouls. He’s out, replaced by Bryan-Amaning. UW 45-27.
SECOND HALF — Same starters.
HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Great start for the Huskies, who seemed to lose their concentration for a spell at the end of the half. They also lost track of Walker, who came in and drained two treys. Without Walker, this is a blowout. As it stands, ASU is close enough to make a run in the second half.
Still, an amazing half for UW which held ASU nine field goals and forced 10 turnovers. Pondexter has been efficient and proving once again why he’s arguably the best player in the conference. He has a game-high 11 points on 4-for-8 shooting and four rebounds. Thomas looks to have bounced back from Thursday’s second-half benching. He’s been very aggressive. He has 10 points on 5-for-11 shooting. Overton and Holiday have made big contributions defensively.
It will be important for Washington to start the second half with the same type of intensity as it did in the first half. If the Huskies can do that for the first eight minutes, they should be able to coast for the final 12.
HALFTIME STATS — Click here.
HALFTIME — UW 42-25.
WHO IS DEMETRIUS WALKER? — Demetrius Walker, a freshman, has eight points and he’s keeping ASU in the game with his outside shooting. UW 38-21.
SARK SIGHTING — Coach Steve Sarkisian makes an appearance on the big screen. Crowd goes wild.
PONDEXTER MAKES A HIGHLIGHT — Overton threw a long pass to Pondexter who skipped around McMillan and leaped over two Sun Devils for an acrobatic layup. He missed the ensuing free throw. UW 38-17 with 3:54 left.
GLASSER UPDATE — Glasser is scoreless. UW 33-11.
IT’S A 20-POINT LEAD — UW 27-7.
POOR SHOOTING — ASU is 2 of 13 from the field with 7:58 left. UW is 11 of 24. ASU has six turnovers.
2 ON 4 — Thomas led a 2-on-4 fast break. He had Pondexter on his right wing, but dribbled hard to the rim and flipped in an off-balance layup. UW 25-6 with 7:58 left.
GOOD SCOUTING — Looks like coach Lorenzo Romar and his staff found a hole in ASU’s zone. The Sun Devils are leaving the corner three open and Suggs have taken advantage for two treys. UW 21-6.
RISKY MOVE — ASU coach Herb Sendek is leaving Kuksiks in the game with two fouls. Not sure why UW is attacking him. ASU needs his offense. UW 18-6 with 10:18 left.
TURNER AND SUGGS HEATING UP — Both UW sharp-shooters have knocked down treys. UW 14-4 with 12:20 left.
GETTING CHIPPY — For a nice guy, Pondexter gets into a lot of skirmishes. He had words with Jerren Shipp before tangling with Kuksiks. Both players picked up fouls away from the ball. UW 11-4.
THIRD SUB — Scott Suggs checks in for Holiday. Rihards Kuksiks is in for ASU.
TV TIMEOUT — Lockett is the only Sun Devil to score. ASU has just one field goal in the first six minutes. That’s good UW defense. UW 8-4.
THE OVERTON EFFECT — In his first minute, Overton collected a turnover and drove for a short jumper that sent the crowd crazy. UW 8-2.
SECOND SUB — Overton is in for Gaddy. And he’s on Glasser. Uh-oh.
FIRST SUB — Matthew Bryan-Amaning is in for Breshers.
THOMAS IS ON A MISSION — Thomas is driving at every opportunity. It seems he’s extra animated tonight. He has four points. UW 6-2.
MATCHUPS — Holidayis on Abbott, Pondexter has Lockett, Thomas is on Glasser. UW 4-2.
20 SECONDS FIRST FOUL — Seriously this is getting ridiculous. Let’s track how many tonight. ASU 2-0.
LUCKY DAWG — Five-year-old Henry Chu (sp??) joined UW on the bench for the start.
STARTERS — No change for UW: Isaiah Thomas, Abdul Gaddy, Quincy Pondexter, Justin Holiday and Tyreese Breshers.
ASU: F Trent Lockett, C Eric Boateng, G Ty Abbott, G Jamelle McMillan and Glasser.
NEAR A SELLOUT — As of this morning, there were 50 tickets remaining.
WROTEN UPDATE — Garfield High junior Tony Wroten Jr. posted an entry on his Twitter page. Said Wroten: “If uw win tonight its goin b a real boost for me on how high my intrest is in staying home and goin to da dub.” Wroten has UW among his final five.
ON FSN — Tonight’s game completes a triple header for FSN. Steve Physioc and Marques Johnson have the call.
AROUND THE PAC-10: Cal moves to the top of the conference after its 72-58 win at UCLA. Oregon State beat Oregon 62-42, giving the Beavers their first Civil War hoops sweep in 17 years. The last time I checked, Washington State had a 10-point lead with 13 minutes left in the second half.
GLASSER RIBBING — The Dawg Pack is all over ASU guard Derek Glasser, taunting him with chants and several creative posters. One poster reads: “Mrs. Overton,” which is likely a reference to Glasser’s long-standing on-court feud with UW’s Venoy Overton. The UW students are also holding pictures of Glasser in unflattering poses and one fan is holding up a baby with a picture of Glasser on the face.
IT’S OVER — 79-56.
