Oregon State game thread

IT’S OVER — 59-52.
FANS ARE LEAVING — With 25.3 seconds left, several fans are making their way to the exits. UW is up 59-52.
BACK ON THE THREAD — Filed the game story. Overton sank two FTs to give UW a 58-52 lead with 35 seconds left.
BEST GAME OF THE SEASON — Regardless of the outcome, this is a great game. UW 52-47 at 4:09.
SLOWING DOWN — Got to slow down on the thread and write the game story. UW 43-39 at 9:21.
UW LEADS — Turner put UW on top 40-37 at 11:15.
ALL THE WAY BACK — Thomas sank a three-pointer to tie the game. UW 37-37 at 12:22.
ALMOST ALL THE WAY BACK — Pondexter sank a layup that cut UW’s deficit to four. OSU 35-11 at 14:08.
HUSKY PRESS — Unlike the USC defeat, the Huskies have gone to the press early in the second half and it looks to be working. UW’s bench is also much better. The reserves have a little life and there’s a sense of dread coming from the OSU bench. OSU 35-27 at 15:33.
OVERTON ATTACKING — Overton is going to find a way to get to the basket or get fouled. He’s just determined. And it’s interesting to note Romar pulled Gaddy after an early turnover in favor of Overton. OSU 35-25 at 16:01.
SECOND HALF — Same starters.
HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Got to admit, I like the coaching moves from Robinson. Petty bold stuff. Starting Brandt was a nice wrinkle. He played the opening minutes, sank a couple fo three-pointers and never got off the bench late in the half. Robinson also switched to a 2-3 zone, which is a small wrinkle, but it’s working.
UW will need to make adjustments during intermission because the holes they found last week are not in the same places.
It’s strange that Pondexter has taken just two shots and one point. Thomas and Turner are leading the way with five points. Thomas, however, is 1 for 6 from the field.
And after UW finds ways to score, it needs to slow down OSU’s offense. (Wow that even felt strange to type). Imagine, the Beavvers are clicking on the offensive end because of Schaftenaar (eight points) and Cunningham (nine). Schaftenaar, however, hit a couple of long three-pointers and I got to believe the Huskies can live with that. But they won’t live long with Cunningham outworking them inside for points.
It goes without saying that the next 20 minutes are critical.
HALFTIME STATS — Click here.
OVERTON TO THE RESCUE — Overton is stalking J.Tarver and trying to quicken the pace. He got a steal in the open court and raced in for an uncontested dunk. OSU 29-22.
ANOTHER OSU CHANGE — The Beavers switched out of their 1-3-1 zone and is using a 2-3 zone. At least it looks like a 2-3 zone to me. I haven’t seen Seth Tarver doing his thing at the top of the zone like he has in the past. It looks like he’s out top with Haynes. OSU 29-18.
SLOWING DOWN — Not me, the game. UW has become deliberate in it’s attack and that’s not good for the Huskies. OSU 29-18 at 3:11.
TURNER’S HEROICS — After a pair of miscues, Turner drained a three-pointer and sank another long basket. OSU 27-16 at 6:39.
10-POINT DEFICIT — Okay now seems like a good time panic. UW is down 21-11 at 8:48.
TURNER’S MISCUES — Elston Turner committed back to back turnovers. The first time he threw a pass out of bounds and the next time he traveled. OSU 18-11 at 8:58.
CUNNINGHAM OUT — Not sure what happened, but Cunningham hobbled off the court and was helped to the lockers.
STARTERS BENCHED — UW is going with a lineup that includes: Breshers, Overton, Turner, Gant and Suggs. OSU 16-11 at 10:43.
IS IT TOO EARLY TO PANIC? — Cunningham drained a three-pointer from the corner while UW is searching for its offense. The early calls are also going against the Huskies and their bench is dead. Assistant Raphael Chillious yelled: “Get in the game over here!” at the players on the sideline. OSU 16-11 at 11:28.
THIRD SUB — Tyreese Breshers is in for Bryan-Amaning, who collected a silly foul. With the shot clock winding down, he bumped Joe Burton on a long jumper. OSU 13-11 at 13:46.
SECOND SUB — Scutt Suggs replaced Holiday.
OMINOUS SIGN — After five minutes, Pondexter or Bryan-Amaning have yet to take a shot. The Huskies seem content to shoot from the outside. OSU 12-11 at 14:49.
FIRST SUB — Venoy Overton is for Gaddy.
MORE ON BRANDT — Before tonight, he averaged 0.8 points in 23 games. His previous high was six points and he had converted just one of 9 three-pointers. He’s from Sydney, Australia and attended Lake Forest Academy in Illinois. UW 11-10 at 15:27.
BRANDT MAKING A DIFFERENCE — Where’s this guy been all season? He’s knocked down a pair of treys. UW 10-10 at 16:04.
OSU CHANGES — Brandt is making his first start this season. Seems a little odd to start a freshman for the first time in a game like this. However at 6-10, he gives OSU another long-limbed defender to guard the basket.
STARTERS — No change for UW: Justin Holiday, Quincy Pondexter, Matthew Bryan-Amaning, Abdul Gaddy and Thomas.
OSU: C Roeland Schaftenaar, F Angus Brandt, G Jared Cunningham, G Seth Tarver, G Calvin Haynes
EARLY WARNING — Tight deadline tonight because of the late start so I’m not sure how much I’ll update the thread. I’ll do what I can.
THOMAS WEARING A GLOVE — Isaiah Thomas bruised his hand awhile back and wore a padded glove on his shooting hand during warm-ups. He practiced with it this week.
WARMING UP — Both teams are on the floor. We have about 15 minutes before tip.
