Notes From Lorenzo Romar’s Press Conference

Lorenzo Romar’s press conference just ended and here’s a few notes to pass along. You can also download a mp3 audio file of the press conference at Washington’s website.
Matthew Bryan-Amaning and Darnell Gant both had hip injuries, but Romar categorized them as minor and will not require surgery. Tyreese Breshers (leg) and Isaiah Thomas (hand) will be evaluated, but Romar didn’t believe they were serious either.
— Bryan-Amaning will return to England this summer and compete with the Great Britain national team.
Abdul Gaddy was one of 21 players to accept an invitation to attend training camp for the 2010 USA Men’s Basketball U18 National Team.
— On a scale from 1 to 10, Romar estimated Gaddy’s confidence was at 5 or 6. He said the UW point guard needs to develop a jump shot in the offseason and expects he’ll be an impact player next season.
— When asked about Justin Holiday, Romar said: “I don’t know for sure if he can be a go-guy.” The UW coach said he envisions Holiday averaging double-digit scoring.
— After his press conference, Romar met with the team and he expects everyone to return next season.
— With one scholarship remaining, Romar is hopeful to bring in at least one player. When asked if UW would bring in two players on scholarship, he was was unsure.
— Romar used the term “new faces” to describe C.J. Wilcox, Clarence Trent, Gaddy and Breshers.
— The Huskies non-league schedule will consists of the Maui Invitational, a road game at Texas A&M, a game at KeyArena versus Seattle University and home games against Texas Tech and Eastern Washington. Washington is still seeking a few schools to fill home dates on the non-league schedule.
— UW coaches are allowed eight hours of work with players beginning April 12, including two hours of instruction on the court with a basketball.
— Romar has not been contacted by another school and he has not spoken with athletic director Scott Woodward about a contract extension yet.
— Contrary to a report from DraftExpress, Quincy Pondexter will not play in the NABC All-Star game, according to Romar. Romar said Pondexter will not play in any postseason games or tournaments, including the Portsmouth Invitational.
— Romar’s highlights to the season were the UCLA game, which drew ESPN’s GameDay crew, the first road win at Stanford, the victory over California in the Pac-10 Tournament final and the 15-point comeback win over Marquette in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
