I can’t see it. I want it to happen. I’ve explained that it needs to happen.
But after watching Saturday’s NCAA tournament semifinals, I can’t envision a scenario in which No. 5 Butler upsets top-seed Duke tonight in the national championship game.
The Bulldogs are gritty and courageous. They play excellent defense. Many teams – including Washington – could learn a lot from Butler, which has found a way to win consistently without a lot of height or McDonald’s All-Americans.
But it feels as if the Bulldogs ran into a wall during the final minutes of their win over Michigan State. In many ways, West Virginia would have been a better matchup for Butler.
Duke has too many weapons along the perimeter in Jon Scheyer and Nolan Smith (above) and Kyle Singler. And what in the world has gotten into center Brian Zoubek? Since he’s cut his hair and grew a beard, he looks and is playing tougher.
Hope I’m wrong, but I’m picking Duke 72-58.
Who you got?
