Some observations from Isaiah Thomas

First off, Percy Allen should be back on the blog soon.
But for something else I was doing, I had a chance to speak this week with Isaiah Thomas (pictured in a Mark Harrison photo at right) and asked him for a few of his thoughts on some of the UW newcomers, and a few other topics:
— Thomas reiterated what many others have said who have watched C.J. Wilcox in practices — that the redshirt frosh can flat-out shoot. “Oh my gosh, he’s the best shooter I’ve ever played with and against,” Thomas said. “It’s crazy that I say this now because he hasn’t played college yet. But when he misses it’s like dudes are mad at him for missing, that’s how good of a shooter he is. He’s going to be a really good player down the road and he’s going to really help me because he will really open up the court for me.”
— On Terrence Ross: “He’s good. He can shoot it. I played with him the other week and I was surprised at how athletic he is and he can definitely shoot the ball, He is going to be good for us.”
— On Desmond Simmons: “He’s going to get time because he’s a hard worker who does things that some guys don’t want to do, like dive on the floor and play defense. And he can shoot it real good and has a real good mid-range game, the in-between game. He’s going to get minutes because he works real hard, I know that.” (Thomas said he hadn’t really played yet this summer with Aziz N’Diaye because of the way their schedules have worked so far).
— On Abdul Gaddy’s: “I think he’s going to play his game and surprise a lot of people. Everyone knows what he is capable of doing. Last year, he was so young and what hurt him was he was trying to do everything right and nonw just going out there and playing. Abdul, now he gets it and he’s got that one year of experience in him and he’s going to surprise a lot of people — not me — but a lot of others, and shut the haters up.”
— When asked what player might most surprise people next year, he said Justin Holliday: “It’s his last year and you guys saw how he ended last year. He definitely surprise a of people, and I think he will a tremendous year this year. I am definitely going to play my heart out for him because he’s a senior and it’s his last year. I feel like he’s going to have a really good season next year.”
— On what he’s working on this summer: “I’m just working on having my field goal percentage higher, my three-point percentage higher and working on a couple of moves that I can always go to,m and working on offensive things that as a scorer you need, and especially someone my size — a floater in the line, the in-between game.”
