New next season: Sunday Night Basketball

Washington’s home and away games against Washington State and its road game at California have been moved from Saturday to Sunday next season.
UW plays WSU Jan. 30 in Pullman and Feb. 27 at Edmundson Pavilion. Both games begin at 7 p.m.
The Huskies were originally scheduled to play Jan. 15 against the Bears, however, the game has been switched to 7 p.m. Jan. 16.
FSN is expected to broadcast the UW-WSU games nationally, however, the network has not released next season’s schedule.
“You play those nights as opposed to Saturday and you can get more eyeballs on you,” coach Lorenzo Romar said. “On Saturday, there’s 1,000 games and obviously there’s less on Sundays.’
For years the conference coaches were reluctant to shift from the Thursday-Saturday format, but the scheduling changes are in line with Pac-10 Commissioner Larry Scott’s plan to increase visibility for the conference.
UCLA plays Jan. 9 at USC in another Sunday game.
California, Oregon, Oregon State, Stanford, USC and Washington State have not released schedules for next season.
JERSEY NUMBERS:
The incoming class picked jerseys numbers and junior college transfer Aziz N’Diaye chose No. 5, which was last worn by Justin Dentmon. Former UW stars Eldridge Recasner, Will Conroy and Deon Luton also wore No. 5.
Freshman Desmond Simmons chose No. 30, which was also donned by legendary scorer Bill Hanson. Terrence Ross will wear No. 31. UW assistant Paul Fortier also wore 31 for the Huskies as did Detlef Schrempf, who changed his number to 22 after his freshman year.
And sophomore Abdul Gaddy switched his number from 10 to 0.
FRIDAY LINKS:
— Arizona State senior sharp-shooter Rihards Kuksiks isn’t sure if he’ll return next season, according to the Arizona Republic.
— The NCAA recently released Academic Progress Rates and Jon Wilner at the Mercury News compiled a list of the Pac-10 basketball coaches.
