Romar skunked; Capel, Calipari, Bennett shine in FT contest

The coaches participated in a free throw challenge for charity after the morning press conference and for the life of me, I don’t know why I took notes, but I did.
Each coach was paired with a local kid and their scores were combined. Contestants were given a warm-up shot and two attempts.
Here’s the results for the coaches:

Wichita State’s Gregg Marshall:
2-0. Nice form. The ball barely grazed the rim.
Connecticut’s Jim Calhoun: 0-2. First attempt was an airball.
Michigan State’s Tom Izzo: 1-1 Easily the most competitive in the field. He missed the first one and practically willed the second one through the net.
Chaminade’s Matt Mahar: 1-1 Bears a strong resemblance to comedian Frank Caliendo.
Oklahoma’s Jeff Capel: 2-0 The media favorite and he didn’t disappoint. Kentucky coach John Calipari tried trash talking to distract him, but Capel displayed excellent form. He held his arm in the upside L on the last shot that splashed through the net.

Calipari:
Tossed up an airball on his practice shot to which Izzo joked: “You almost killed a guy.” Calipari rattled in the next two shots. “Money,” he said.
Virginia’s Tony Bennett: 2-0 Bennett was the only lefty in the group.

Washington’s Lorenzo Romar:
0-2 He tried coaching the little girl he was paired with, but it didn’t help. She missed two as did Romar, who rushed through the shots as if he had a plane to catch.
Capel and Calipari and their partners tied for the win.
