Virginia game thread

IT’S OVER — UW 106-63.
SHERRER TIME — Walk-ons Brendan Sherrer and Antoine Hosley are ready to check in. UW 102-57.
SLOWING DOWN — The Huskies are in control 73-42 with 12:43 left and I’m not sure if the starters on the bench will return. I have to write the game story. I’ll update if anything major happens.
STEALS RECORD IN DANGER — Holiday has six steals. The UW record for a game is nine, which is held by Jason Hamilton. Guess who is doing the color commentary for KJR.
VIRGINA GOES ZONE — It doesn’t help. Holiday nails a three-pointer in the corner to put UW up 64-37.
NO ENERGY — As expected, the crowd is flat. Long day. Big first half. UW looks a little flat. UW 59-34, 17:07.
SECOND HALF — Same starters for both teams.
HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Just a dominating performance. Think McNeese State. The Huskies blitzed Virginia. They have more rebounds (16-12), assists (13-7) and fewer turnovers (6-12). Thomas (14 points) and Gaddy (10) are leading the way.
Washington has converted 8 of 9 three-pointers, led by Thomas who has three.
Gaddy is getting to his sweet spot, which is the middle of the floor just below the free throw line where he floats in a short runner. He’s converted 5 of 6 shots.
Nine Huskies have scored. The only person who hasn’t is Overton, who has three assists and two rebounds.
Just a dominating half.
HALFTIME STATS — Click here.
HALFTIME — UW leads 55-31.

GOOD SHOOTING — Washington is seven for seven on three-pointers.
FIRMLY IN CONTROL — The Huskies are up by 20 again. Gaddy just drained a long jumper. He should have moved back an inch to make it a three. No worries. It’s one of the few things Washington did wrong tonight. UW 48-28, 3:27.
GANT PULLS DOWN A REBOUND — Gant got gritty in the middle and collected a rebound in traffic for a putback despite being fouled. He missed the free throw. UW 46-26.
HUSKIES KEEP RUNNING — The Cavs look tired. They’re pulling on their shorts, while Lorenzo Romar shuttles in players to keep fresh. UW 44-26.
TERRENCE ROSS — The freshman finally makes an appearance. He’s the last scholarship player to play. UW 37-20.
STATEMENT — It feels as if the Huskies want to make a statement with this game. They’re just too quick and they’re overwhelming Virginia. Cavs coach Tony Bennett has called a few timeouts to slow stem the momentum, but it’s not working. Washington is pouring it on. It’s speed and quickness is too much for the young Cavs. UW 37-17, 7:11.
HIGHLIGHT — Holiday threw a no-look pass to Gant for a two-hand dunk. UW 34-15.
GO … HUSKIES — Pro-UW crowd is getting loud.
WILCOX SAYS HELLO — C.J. Wilcox makes a big entrance, nailing consecutive three-pointers. UW 30-15, 9:16.
TURNOVERS — Virginia has seven turnovers, however, it feels like more.
GANT ISN’T HELPING — Gant picked up his second turnover on a similar travel call. He’s rushing. And it shows. UW 24-15, 11:25.
ALL RESERVES … — … and Gaddy and Gant. It’s an unusual lineup.
MORE DEFENSE — The pressure is rattling Virginia. Hands everywhere. Switching. Bodies on the floor. And the Husky crowd is chanting. Feels like Hec Ed. Gaddy just turned another turnover into a layup after he drove 1-on-1, spun baseline and sank a deft shot off the glass. UW 24-13, 12:02.
NICE UNIS — They’re subtle, yet distinct. UW 20-13.
FOULS MOUNTING — UW has five fouls after a little more than five minutes. UW 16-13, 14:14.
THIRD SUB — Aziz N’Diaye is in for Bryan-Amaning.
HOLIDAY IS A MENACE — Holiday is getting in the passing lanes. I have him for two steals already. Holiday is defending Farrakhan, which is a brilliant move. UW 11-7, 15:41.
FIRST SUBS — Venoy Overton is in for Gaddy and Scott Suggs checked in for Gant. UW 11-7, 16:28.
NICE START — UW’s defense is a buzz saw early on. It’s creating a lot of scoring opportunities. UW 8-7, 17:00.
CHANGE IN STARTERS — Virginia is not starting 7-foot center Assane Sene.
STARTERS — Same for UW. Isaiah Thomas, Abdul Gaddy, Justin Holiday, Matthew Bryan-Amaning and Darnell Gant.
G – Jontel Evans
G – Mustapha Farrakhan
G – Joe Harris
F – Mike Scott
F- Will Sherrill
DAWG HOUSE — The ratio of UW fans to UVA fans is 4 to 1. There’s a lot of purple in the 2,400-seat gym.
REFS — Tonight’s crew: Jeffery Clark (Atlantic 10, Big East), Tim Higgins (ACC, A-10) and Jeffrey Nichols (ACC, America East).
ON TV — ESPN2 has the call with Sean McDonough on play-by-play duties and Bill Raftery and Jay Bilas providing commentary.
HUSKIES ON THE COURT — Both teams are warming up. Venoy Overton, who hurt his tailbone last week, looks fine. He’s energetic and spry.
NEW TIP TIME — The Michigan State-Chaminade game ran a little long. The new tip off time is 9:12 p.m.
