Big game in California and the Pac-10 is spectators

The biggest game so far this season in the state of California tips off at 7:30 p.m. tonight and you won’t find a Bruin, Trojan, Golden Bear or Cardinal within miles of the arena.
How can that be?
It a sad testament to just how far the Pac-10 has sunken when a game between No. 17 San Diego State (6-0) and St. Mary’s (6-1) represents the best the Golden State has to offer.
Meanwhile UCLA is recovering after a pair of defeats in New York last week. USC is anxiously awaiting when JC transfer Jio Fontan becomes eligible in a few weeks. California is trying to rediscover its missing offense and Stanford is hoping standout junior Jeremy Green, who collapsed during a game Sunday, is okay.
It’s just a mess right now in the Pac-10, but then we’ve been over this before.
Things should improve tonight because the conference plays a trio of cupcakes, but the big tests are Thursday and Friday.
Tonight’s games (all times are local to site)
Arizona at Rice, 7 p.m.
Utah Valley at Oregon State, 7 p.m.
UC Davis at California, 7:30 p.m.
Picks: Arizona, OSU and Cal
Record: 35-13
Notice: Live chat noon tomorrow.
