Portland game thread

IT’S OVER — UW 74-72.
SCARY MOMENT — Holiday went down hard on a bad foul from reserve Ryan Nicholas. Holiday drained both free throws. Brendan Sherrer is in. UW 92-72. 1:36.
SLOWING DOWN — Got to write the game story. UW 79-62, 5:18.
OFF AND RUNNING — Thomas snagged a rebound and ran a few steps and connected with Bryan-Amaning for a dunk. UW 77-62.
SUGGS AGAIN — The play was getting a little hectic. Thomas had a shot blocked. Bryan-Amaning dove to the floor to retrieve the loose ball and got it to Thomas who connected with Suggs at the top of the key. Suggs then drained a big three-pointer. UW 75-62, 6:21.
SUGGS ANSWERS — Big three-pointer from Suggs, which snapped a three-possession scoreless streak. UW 71-62, 7:53.
MOMENTUM HAS SWUNG — Sikma scored on a pretty layup despite being fouled. He missed the layup. UW 68-62, 8:11.
UH-OH — Someone might want to defend Mitrovic, who has four three-pointers in the second half. He’s leading Portland back into this. UW 68-60, 9:23.
MEDIA TIMEOUT — Bryan-Amaning is flexing his offensive muscle on a dunk and layup. He has 11 points. Not sure how Portland climbs back into this other than hitting a slew of three-pointers. Looks for Wilcox to take a few more shots over the next few minutes. He’s had some open looks. UW 68-52, 10:29.
PORTLAND TIMEOUT — Got the feeling Pilots coach Eric Reveno can sense this game is slipping away. The Pilots are still close enough to make a run and keep it close, but the Huskies are also a spurt away from blowing this thing wide open. Washington also has the tempo were it likes it. It’s fast and the shots are flowing. UW 59-41, 14:23.
HOT SHOOTING — The Huskies have connected on four straight shots. Gaddy, Gant and two layups from Thomas and Holiday. UW 56-41, 15:57.
QUICK SUBS — Bryan-Amaning and Wilcox are in for N’Diaye and Gant. UW 56-41, 16:07.
AND UW ANSWERS — The Huskies have also sank two treys, one from Gaddy and another from Gant. UW 54-39, 16:44.
TWO QUICK THREES — Mitrovic connected on two treys because Holiday was caught helping on defense. UW 46-37.
SECOND HALF — Same starters for both teams.
HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — The game is going as scripted. Washington has forced nine turnovers and it has sank six three-pointers. Holiday was the early star and he has 14 points. Thomas took over later in the half and he has 13. Washington leads 17-13 on rebounds.
The Huskies are doing a decent job of containing Portland’s shooters. The Pilots have four three-pointers.
Sikma is hurting UW with eight rebounds, including two on the offensive glass and Stohl has 10 points. Otherwise, the Huskies have controlled the Pilots.
HALFTIME SHOW — Jordan McCabe of Issaquah put on a dribbling exhibition and the Dawg Pack shouted: “He’s a Husky!”
HALFTIME STATS — Click here.
HALFTIME — UW 46-31.

NO MATT NO — Bryan-Amaning did a great job collecting a steal and got out of trouble with a behind-the-back dribble. But he tried to lead a 2-on-2 fast break and ran over a Portland player. UW 42-31, 1:18.
HERE WE GO — Thomas hits a trey. UW 42-29, 2:49.
WHY IS NATE HERE? — Not sure why, but Nate Robinson is in the building. He received a standing ovation from the crowd. Same score. Same time.
WHERE’S THE FOUL — Thomas believes he’s not getting the calls he got when he was a freshman and maybe he’s right. He was knocked down on a short jumper and nothing. UW 39-28, 3:28.
THERE’S THAT RUN — Remember that feeling I had earlier about the crowd wanting a run. Well here it is. There’s energy and juice in the building now. The Huskies are running. UW 39-28, 4:19.
STARTING TO HEAT UP — Not sure why, but the game has much more energy. The crowd too. UW 32-26, 5:40.
ROSS CHECKS IN — Terrence Ross makes an appearance with seven minutes left.
IN CONTROL — The Huskies are firmly in control, but the Pilots are hanging around. UW 27-21, 7:52.
MORE SUBS — Scott Suggs is in the game. UW 22-14, 10:05.
BIG OVATION — Probably the loudest cheers tonight was given to coach Steve Sarkisian who is sitting courtside with his daughter.
UW UNVEILS A TRAP — The Huskies trapped in the backcourt with Overton and Gant. That’s got to be a first this season. Portland nearly had a 10-second violation, but it got the ball up court and found Stohl in the corner for a three. UW 17-12, 11:45.
ANTSY FEELING — Seems like we’re all waiting for the Huskies to explode with a 15-0 run. There’s a weird vibe floating through the building. UW 15-9, 12:21.
TOKEN PRESSURE — The Pilots are applying a light press in the backcourt, but it’s nothing Overton can’t handle. UW 13-9, 13:48.
FAST START FOR HOLIDAY AGAIN — In the last game, he scored 13 of UW’s first 14 points. Tonight he had 7 of 11.
MEDIA TIMEOUT — Venoy Overton, Matthew Bryan-Amaning and C.J. Wilcox are set to check in for N’Diaye, Gant and Gaddy. UW 11-9, 14:22.
PILOTS GO ZONE — Portland fell into a 2-3 zone, however, N’Diaye tipped in a putback. UW 6-6, 16:11.
HOLIDAY IS STILL HOT — Holiday sank his first shot, a three-pointer in the corner. UW 4-2.
MATCHUPS — Thomas is on Stohl. Interesting. Portland 2-1, 18:23.
TIRED OF RHIANNA — Anyone else tired of the song “Who’s going to run the town tonight?” Maybe I’ve been to one too many athletic events.
NO ENERGY — Don’t know what it is, but there’s no juice in the crowd tonight. It’s not as if the Huskies are playing an away game, but the light attendance and nonchalant mood is a bit strange at Hec Ed.
STARTING LINEUP — No change for UW. Isaiah Thomas, Abdul Gaddy, Aziz N’Diaye, Justin Holiday and Darnell Gant.
F – Luke Sikma
F – Nemanja Mitrovic
C – Kramer Knutson
G – Jared Stoh
G – Eric Waterford
IS ANYBODY GOING TO SHOW UP? — We got a late arriving crowd at Hec Ed. The Dawg Pack is about 70 percent full and there’s just a smattering of fans scattered around the arena. A media type on press row said: “That’s what you get for scheduling a Monday night game.”
CLOSE TO TIP OFF — Both teams have been on and now they’re off the court. We’re about 35 minutes away from the start.
ON TV — FSN has paired Kevin Calabro with the Hall of Famer Lenny Wilkens.
ONLINE — For those unable to access FSN or KJR-950 AM, you can find a simulcast feed online at
