Texas A&M game thread

IT’S OVER — A&M 63-62. Thomas shot at the buzzer blocked.
CHECK OUT THE FINISHING SQUAD — Gaddy, Suggs, Wilcox, Bryan-Amaning and Gant. Wow. A&M 63-62, 34.8.
HOLIDAY DISQUALIFIED — Short game for Holiday who just fouled out with four points. A&M 63-56, 3:52.
STILL LIFE — The Huskies are still in it and there’s plenty of time for a comeback. But they have to do somethign about the rebound. UW has 20 TOs and 18 FGS. A&M 63-56, 4:02.
SLOWING DOWN — This has the feel of a game that will be decided in the final seconds. Unfortunately, I have to write the game story. I’ll try to keep up as much as I can on the thread. A&M 57-51, 6:42.
GOT TO REBOUND — I’ll write it again, when the Huskies don’t rebound, bad things happen. They failed to box out Walkup on a free throw and he scored on a putback. A&M 57-49, 7:42.
BRYAN-AMANING IN FOUL TROUBLE — He has three fouls. A&M 54-47, 8:33.
GETTING HEATED — The crowd is into it again. Every possession feels like a dogfight. A&M 52-47, 8:45.
TWO OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS — Nice possession for UW. Wilcox missed a short jumper and Bryan-Amaning couldn’t power in a dunk, but Gant secured the rebound. Feels like Romar needs to draw up a play to get Wilcox an open three-pointer. He could break this game wide open. A&M 48-47, 11:31.
CRITICAL STRETCH — Feels like an important part of the game when momentum is up for grabs. Wilcox just drained a three-pointer. A&M 46-44, 13:05.
MEDIA TIMEOUT — It’s not time to panic, but Holiday and Suggs have four fouls, N’Diaye three and Gant two. Bryan-Amaning is in good shape and he has one, but he’ll need to stay on the floor for extended minutes. That’s not such a bad thing, but he’ll have to rebound. A&M 43-41, 15:51.
N’DIAYE IN FOUL TROUBLE — The big guy has three fouls. A&M 44-41, 16:20.
HOLIDAY SITS AGAIN — Not a good game for Holiday. He committed a turnover and then made a foul trying to make up for it. He’s out. Suggs is in. UW 37-35, 17:31
GANT BENCHED — He was replaced by Ross. Thomas hit a trey. UW 35-35, 17:57.
QUICK TIMEOUT — The Aggies are off and running thanks in part to a bad pass from Gant that resulted in a Middleton dunk. Loubeau also scored after securing an offensive rebound and Walkup sank a layup that prompted the timeout. The Aggies are on a 6-0 run. A&M 35-32.
SECOND HALF — Same starters.
HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Good game. Washington not only withstood an early onslaught from the Aggies, they’re leading after 20 minutes. The rebounding is still an issue and A&M leads 19-15 on the glass, but the Huskies have held the Aggies to 37.9 percent shooting. A&M is 0 for 4 on three-pointers and UW is 2 for 11 behind the arc.
Thomas had a slow start, but he has a team-high eight points. N’Diaye has a game-high seven rebounds. Bryan-Amaning has picked up a couple of traveling calls, but he has six points.
This isn’t the pace UW would prefer, but the Huskies have led at halftime in every game this season.
Maybe it’s me, but this feels like Texas Tech all over again. Not last week’s game, but last year’s game in which no team led by more than eight points and went into overtime. The Huskies are hoping for a better ending.
LOUD OVATION — They love their football in College Station. The football team is on the floor and they received one of the loudest applause. They finished 9-3 and won the Big 12 South division. They’ll face LSU in the Cotton Bowl.
HALFTIME STATS — Click here.
HALFTIME — UW 32-29.

WHAT WAS HE THINKING? — Apparently Bryan-Amaning lost track of the time. He shot a half-court attempt with 2.5 left.
WOW — Turner emphatically blocked Overton’s layup and Harris picked up a technical foul for celebrating. UW 29-29, 48.1.
SHOTS NOT FALLING — UW is 1 for 9 on three-pointers. A&M 29-27, 1:10.
SUGGS IN FOUL TROUBLE — Suggs also has three fouls and he sits down. Wilcox is back in. A&M 28-25, 3:16
MEDIA TIMEOUT — Just a scrappy game. Looks like it will go down to the final minutes. No team has led by more than six points. Overton looks like he hurt his leg trying to defend. He still doesn’t appear as if he’s fully healthy. Solid game from Gaddy. He’s been quiet, but he’s given Washington a team-high six points. UW 23-23, 3:55.
HOLIDAY PICKS UP ANOTHER — Holiday has three fouls and he’ll have to sit down for the rest of the half. He’s been replaced by Suggs. A&M 23-21 4:52.
UW TIMEOUT — When the Huskies don’t rebound bad things happen. They can’t allow A&M more than one shot at the basket and at times the Aggies have created scoring opportunites with putbacks. A&M 22-19, 6:05.
AHEAD AGAIN — Thomas scored his first points on a pair of free throw to put Washington ahead again. UW 19-17, 7:47.
MOMENTUM IS TURNING — Looks like the positive vibe from the pre-game celebrations is starting to wear off and the Huskies are zeroed in on the Aggies now. A&M’s offense has all but dried up. Washington isn’t scoring at will either, but it’s doing just enough to get some baskets on putbacks and second-chance opportunities. Ross provided a bit of a lift. Overton also hit a big three-pointer. Uw 17-17, 7:47.
ROSS CHECKS IN — Freshman Terrence Ross entered the game and tied teh score. UW 17:17, 7:50.
BACK IN IT — The Huskies’ defense has stiffened. A&M hasn’t scored in over four minutes. A&M 16-15, 8:40.
ODD LINEUP — It’s Gant and four reserves, Bryan-Amaning, Overton, Wilcox and Suggs. A&M 16-10, 10:20.
BRYAN-AMANING ANSWERS — Bryan-Amaning came down with an offensive rebound off of a Gant missed three-pointer. So far the Huskies are being pummeled by a bigger, more aggressive team. They’re being dominated on the glass 11 to 6 and the Aggies have 16 shots to Washington’s 12. A&M 16-10, 11:42.
ROBERSON IS A BEAST — Backup forward Kourtney Roberson collected two offensive rebounds. That’s what Romar was afraid of. A&M 16-10.
HOLIDAY IN EARLY FOUL TROUBLE — Holiday collected his second foul ona ticky-tack call. He’s been replaced by Gant. A&M 16-10, 12:45.
SECOND SUB — Chris Wilcox is in for Thomas. A&M 13-10, 13:14.
FIRST SUBS — Media timeout. Matthew Bryan-Amaning, Scott Suggs and Venoy Overton will check in when play resumes. For some reason, the Huskies aren’t getting back on defense. Middleton is beating them down court routinely. Someone has to account for him. Romar is barking instructions on the bench no doubt saying the same thing. N’Diaye has done a fabulous job on the glass so far, but he’s going to sit for awhile. A&M 9-6, 15:05.
GADDY ANSWERS — UW went five possessions without a basket before Gaddy scored a layup. A&M 7-6.
TURNOVER — Gaddy was stripped in the backcourt, which resulted in a Middleton dunk. A&M 7-4, 16:11.
SET PLAY — Nice start. Thomas drives and connects with Holiday on the baseline for a layup. Looked like a set play. UW 4-2, 18:43.
IT’S ELECTRIC — This place is rocking. Great crowd. Good energy. It feels like a big game. The Huskies don’t look as if they’re rattled. We’ll see.
STARTING LINEUPS — No change for UW: Isaiah Thomas, Abdul Gaddy, Holiday, Darnell Gant and Aziz N’Diaye.
A&M:
F – David Loubeau
F – Khris Middleton
F – Nathan Walkup
G – B.J. Holmes
G – Dash Harris
COOL TRADITIONS — Not sure how much of ESPN2 is capturing this, but his place is wild. They have some unique fan traditions at A&M. The crowd starts with their hands on their knees and chant a song. Then the students put their arms around each other and sway from side to side. Cool visual.
ELSTON TURNER SIGHTING — Spotted former Husky Elston Turner who gave a big embrace to Tyreese Breshers. Turner is dressed in street clothes because he’s sitting out this season due to transfer rules.
EARLY SCORE — Arizona State beat Gardner-Webb 71-48.
TOUGH TRAVEL — Speaking of traveling to Texas, this trip almost became an annual or bi-annual trip if the Pac-16 had come to fruition. College Station isn’t the easiest destination. Think Pullman. There’s no direct flights. You fly to Houston and either drive 90 minutes or take the pond hopper for a 30-minute flight.
FINALS — Three players, including Justin Holiday and Venoy Overton, had finals and was unable to fly with the team Thursday to College Station. They came on a later flight.
BEAUTIFUL ARENA — Got to admit, they know how to do their sports in Texas. Reed Arena is gorgeous. Also did a quick tour of the football stadium and it’s very impressive as is the baseball stadium.
BLACK UNIFORMS — The Huskies are wearing the black uniforms for the first time this year. The last time we saw them was in the NCAA Sweet 16.
