After averaging 19.5 points, 8.5 assists and shooting 46.2% from the three-point range in a home sweep against Oregon and Oregon State that improved Washington to 4-0 in the Pac-10, the conference named junior guard Isaiah Thomas (left) the Player of the Week.
It’s the first time he has won the award and the second straight POW award for a UW player. Senior forward Matthew Bryan-Amaning won last week.
In an 87-69 win against Oregon on Thursday, Thomas finished with 20 points and a career-high tying nine assists. He also had six rebounds and three steals.
In a 103-72 win over Oregon State on Saturday, Thomas matched his career high with four three-pointers en route to 19 points. He also distributed eight assists. In conference-only games, Thomas is first in assists (7.3) and seventh in scoring (16.5).
“It’s a blessing and everything I do is dedicated to my brother (Abdul) Gaddy,” Thomas in a press release from the school. “It’s an honor to be picked player of the week, but I wish there was an award for the team of the week because without my teammates, I don’t get this award.”
Also Nominated: Arizona’s Derrick Williams, California’s Allen Crabbe, Stanford’s Josh Owens, USC’s Alex Stepheson and WSU’s Klay Thompson.
Past winners:
Jan. 3 – Bryan-Amaning
Dec, 27 – USC’s Jio Fontan
Dec. 20 – UCLA’s Reeves Nelson
Dec. 13 – Thompson
Dec. 6 – Williams
Nove. 29 – Thompson
Nov. 22 – Nelson
