Arizona game thread

IT’S OVER — UW 85-68.
MILKING THE CLOCK — UW leads 78-65 with 2:39 left. The Huskies have slowed things down and they’re taking time off the clock.
OVERHEARD — “The refs are trying to decide which game they should watch.” UW 65-56, 6:43.
GOT TO SLOW DOWN — I know things are getting good, but I got to slow down to write the game story. UW 65-56, 7:42.
IT’S ELECTRIC — The crowd is crazy once again. Credit Overton who scored on a pair of improbable layups against 2-3 defenders. UW 65-56, 7:42.
WILLIAMS IS BACK — He sat out 18 seconds and returned to score a layup. UW 61-56, 9:20.
WILLIAMS HAS FOUR — That’s four fouls on Williams. He’s out. Thomas went to the line and sank two shots. UW 61-54, 10:04.
BEST SEQUENCE OF THE SEASON — Gant commits a turnover, then he makes a block. The ball is bouncing out of bounds before Thomas races to retrieve it and goes flying out of bounds. He threw the ball to N’Diaye. Thomas came back in and got the ball from N’Diaye. Then he drove in the middle of the UA defense and passed outside to Gant who drained a three-pointer. Wow. Spectactular. UW 59-50, 11:15.
REFS WARN MILLER — Miller drew a warning from the officials apparently for something he said. UW 56-48, 12:22.
THREE ON WILLIAMS — Williams is out with three fouls. Thomas drew the foul on a layup. He also sank the FT. UW 54-48, 13:08.
NICE PLAY MBA — Bryan-Amaning sank a difficult layup despite being fouled by Brendon Lavneder. He missed the FT. UW 51-46, 13:44.
REFS MIX-UP — Bryan-Amaning is at the line and he got two shots. He made both. UW 47-44, 15:10.
PARROM STRIKES AGAIN — Parrom, who caught Holiday last year on a cheap foul, tackled Bryan-Amaning from behind to stop a fastbreak layup. Borderline dirty play. Thomas is taking the free throws and he shouldn’t have. The refs have screwed up. Now they’re trying to figure it out.
BRYAN-AMANING COUNTERS — Arizona’s lead didn’t last very long. Bryan-Amaning answered on the ensuing possession with a dunk. UW 45-44, 15:39.
ARIZONA LEADS — The Wildcats have their first lead since 8-6. Holiday stumbled and lost his dribble and Jones scored on a layup. UA 44-43, 16:03.
EARLY TIMEOUT — Miller called a quick timeout after Williams gave up an easy short jumper to Bryan-Amaning. UW 38-33, 19:06.
SECOND HALF — Same starters for both teams.
ROLLER COASTER — The Dawg Pack unveiled a new cheer called the Rollercoaster. Nice.
HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS — Thomas and Holiday have been sensational, but you got to like Washington’s defense, which has held Arizona to 10 of 30 shooting from the floor. If not for a pair of long three-pointers from Parrom, this game would be dangerously close to an early blowout.
The Huskies are making life difficult for Williams. They’re crowding him and sending an occasional player his way. And UW’s zone is also causing problems. I guess Romar believes Arizona doesn’t have the shooters to shoot over the zone. Parrom has proved him wrong on occasion.
Still UW has controlled the game with its defense.
Offensively, Thomas is running the show again. He has 12 points and four assists and just one turnover. Thomas is uncharateristically cold from the free throw line and has made just 2 of 6. Holiday found a sweet spot on the wing where he knocked down many of his five field goals. He’s only missed once and has 12 points. He’s also collected two steals.
The Huskies have controlled this game from the opening minutes, but it’s still anyone’s ballgame.
HALFTIME STATS — Click here.
HALFTIME — UW 36-31.

WILDCATS STREAKING — Arizona is on a 7-0 streak. UW 32-29, 1:19.
DOUBLE BONUS — Washington is shooting two shots on every foul. Williams has two fouls. UW 32-22, 2:28.
ROMAR IS HOT — Overton drew a foul for on for pushing off on a made layup and Romar nearly walked out to midcourt after the official who made the call. He’s stomping mad. On UW’s previous possession, Thomas connected with Overton for an alley-oop dunk that brought the house down. UW 30-22, 3:13.
IT’S UP TO 10 — Thomas sank a pair of free throws. UW 28-18, 5:03.
HUSKIES IN CONTROL — Arizona came close to taking the lead, but Washington scored six straight points. UW 26-18, 5:33.
LUMPED SCORING — Holiday has nine points, Thomas seven and Bryan-Amaning four. No one else has scored for the Huskies. UW 20-16, 7:56.
SOLID DEFENSE — Arizona is shooting 23.5 percent (4 of 17) from the floor. UW 20-13.
HOLIDAY TAKES OVER — Holiday has sank a pair of mid-range jumpers and he forced a turnover. Bryan-Amaning also converted a contested layup. UW 20-13, 8:43.
WILLIAMS UPDATE — Williams 0 for 3 from the field and 2 for 2 from the line for two points. UW 13-11, 11:13.
MORE SUBS — C.J. Wilcox checks in for Thomas. On the previous possession, Thomas missed three straight free throws. Arizona has rolled through the rotation and has already used 10 players. UW 13-11, 11:58.
ARIZONA TIMEOUT — Miller called a timeout after Thomas drained a three-pointer. He doesn’t want things to get out of hand. UW 13-8, 13:15.
GETTING HEATED — N’Diaye battled with Kyryl Natyazhko for a rebound. The crowd is in it now. On the previous possession, Holiday swiped a pass for a layup. UW 11-8.
SECOND SUB — Venoy Overton checked in for Suggs. UA 8-6, 15:08.
EARLY ZONE — UW switches to a zone. UA 8-6, 15:56.
FIRST SUB — Darnell Gant is in for N’Diaye. UA 6-4, 16:25.
THOMAS DRAWS FIRST BLOOD — Thomas drove in the paint and was fouled by Williams on a layup. UW 2-0, 17:44.
MATCHUPS — Thomas has Jones, Holiday is on Hill, N’Diaye is on Williams, Suggs picked up Fogg and Bryan-Amaning has Perry. UW 0-0, 18:07.
IT’S ELECTRIC — Minutes from tip off and we have a full house. The crowd is into it. The student section is revved up. Should be a good game.
STARTING LINEUPS — No change for UW: Isaiah Thomas, Aziz N’Diaye, Matthew Bryan-Amaning, Scott Suggs and Justin Holiday.
Arizona: G Lamont Jones, G Kyle Fogg, F Derrick Williams, F Jesse Perry and F Solomon Hill.
WSU UPDATE — Washington State sophomore guard Reggie Moore returns from a one-game suspension and reserve guard Faisal Aden is out with a knee injury. WSU leads early 16-12.
SWEET FLAGS — Two Dawg Pack members walked in with a Senegal flag draped around shoulders. I’m assuming they’re paying homage to Aziz N’Diaye, a Senegal native.
TALK OF THE TOWN — There’s a significant void on the Seattle sports scene. The Seahawks and UW football are finished and we’re about 70 days until the Mariners begin. A lot of the talk today on the sports radio was about tonight’s game. We have both columnists here. Steve Kelley is writing for tomorrow.
HUSKIES AND WILDCATS — Both teams are on the court going through warmups.
NEW NAME — The UW Board of Regents approved the naming rights deal with the Alaska Airlines. The Huskies officially playing at Alaska Airlines Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. The company has two logos on the court.

IF YOU’RE COMING TO THE GAME — You better get here. UW students are lined up outside the doors. The line wraps around the building. The students will be allowed in any minute now.
