— Our advance took a look at WSU junior Klay Thompson, who is 0-4 and has struggled in his games against Washington.
The News Tribune also wrote a feature on Thompson. Cougars guard Marcus Capers told the TNT: “The first few days I met him, I thought he was mute. I didn’t think he could talk at all. But he’s opened up.”
— Here’s the advance from the Everett Herald and WSU’s DeAngelo Casto says: “I’d be lying to say it’s just another game. It’s a huge rival.”
— Despite a sprained pinkie and foul trouble, which limited Derrick Williams to just 18 minutes, the sophomore star scored 20 points and led Arizona to an 82-73 victory over USC. Williams and Lamont Jones, who added 17 points, are former Trojan commits.
USC’s lack of depth played a major role in its defeat because the Trojans didn’t have enough bodies to counter Arizona’s 11-man rotation.
— Former Bellevue High standout Aaron Bright returned to the bench and was replaced by freshman Anthony Brown, who led Stanford to a 70-56 victory over Oregon State.
— Beavers coach Craig Robinson told the Oregonian the latest defeat “felt like a kick in the stomach.”
— That’s three straight wins for California, which knocked off Oregon 85-77 last night.
— The Ducks fell behind by 18 points before they cut their deficit to 66-65 with 6:39 left. The comeback came up short and Oregon lost a chance to claim its first Bay Area sweep in 35 years.
Lazeric Jones (18 points) and Reeves Nelson (15) carried UCLA to a 73-72 overtime win at Arizona State.
— The Sun Devils played a solid 40 minutes, but they suffered a defensive lapse in first few minutes of overtime, which led to their seventh consecutive Pac-10 defeat.
