Pac-10 roundup: Arizona outlasts Cal in triple overtime

Highlights: (20) Wash. – Oregon
SUNDAY AFTERNOON LINKS:
— Here’s a video highlight or lowlight (above) depending on your point of view from Washington’s 81-76 defeat last night at Oregon. And here’s a link to another replay of the the action.
— After the game, Matthew Bryan-Amaning said: “In the past, when you hear Washington basketball, you think of defense first and it kind of scares teams. And now teams are looking forward to playing us.
— Coach Lorenzo Romar explained why Washington started the game in a 2-3 zone that made the Huskies passive in resulted in a season-low two steals for UW.
Gary Parrish at CBSsports.com asks: Did Washington just lose the Pac-10 title?
— If the Ducks win a few more games, Dana Altman gets my vote for coach of the year. A team that opened the Pac-10 season 0-4 has won five of its past seven games.
— Washington State was able to do what Washington could not. After last Sunday’s emotional win over UW, the Cougars lost Thursday’s game at Oregon, but were able to bounce back and salvage a split on the road. WSU beat Oregon State 61-55.
— Love the photos and write-up from the Oregonian following the WSU-OSU game.
— What a game in Berkeley, Calif. last night. Wish I could have seen that one because the video highlights are amazing. No. 21 Arizona not only toppled California 107-105 in triple overtime classic, the Wildcats took a commanding 1 1/2 game lead over UCLA and 2-game lead over Washington in the Pac-10 race.
— It’s a shame somebody had to lose the three-hour marathon.
Jeremy Green and Jarrett Mann led Stanford to a 83-75 win over Arizona State.
— Following their ninth straight Pac-10 defeat, the Sun Devils are starting to look to next season.
— UCLA ruined its former coach Steve Lavin’s homecoming and handed St.John’s a 66-59 defeat. The Bruins (16-7) have won seven of the past eight games.
— And finally, CBSsports.com writes parity in the Pac-10 is a bad thing. The conference has regressed to 2010. Last year, the league sent just two teams to the NCAA tournament.
All for now. Enjoy your Super Bowl Sunday.
