Lorenzo Romar on recruiting: “We’re still actively after it”

Washington coach Lorenzo Romar said even though the late signing period has ended, he hopes to add a big man or two before the 2011-12 season.
“We’re still actively after it,” he said. “We’re still trying to add someone. We’re just working at it.”
Romar said if the Huskies were to add someone to the roster they would most likely have them sign a non-binding financial aid agreement.
Last year Washington was in a similar situation when Portland recruit Terrence Jones reneged on a verbal commitment and signed with Kentucky. The Huskies were left scrambling and tried to bring in another big body. But when the season began, UW did not use the scholarship.
“Every once in awhile that happens,” Romar said. “There’s many teams across the country that don’t use all of their scholarships.”
Romar expects at least 11 scholarship players to report for training camp in the fall. If Washington didn’t add another player, Romar said he would be comfortable with the players on the team.
When asked if the Huskies are thin on the front line, Romar said: “In terms numbers, if you look at players who are over 6 foot 7 inches tall yeah. But the way we do things is different than what the public might think.”
Romar said he’s not expecting to sign anyone immediately and hinted the 2011 recruiting could last until the first day of classes. Players wishing to sign a financial aid agreement must do so before then.
