Report: Lorenzo Romar is candidate for Minnesota T-Wolves

The Twitterverse has been blowing up after Adrian Wojnarowski at Yahoo Sports published a tweet that said the Minnesota Timberwolves will fire coach Kurt Rambis and possibly replace him with Washington coach Lorenzo Romar.

According to Wojnarowski, Rambis is out and the Wolves have targeted Romar.
In nine years, Romar has compiled a 195-102 record at Washington. He’s guided the Huskies to six NCAA tournament appearances, three Sweet 16’s, three Pac-10 tournament championships and a regular season Pac-10 title.
Romar signed a 10-year contract extension in April 2010 that pays him $1.7 million per year not including bonuses.
Rambis reportedly earned $2M annually on a four-year deal signed in 2009. He spent two seasons with Minnesota and compiled a 32-132 record, including a league-worst 17-65 this season.
Romar is the longest tenured coach in the conference and he’s never coached in the NBA. His previous collegiate stops include Pepperdine (42-44) and Saint Louis (51-44). His career coaching record is 288-190.
Minnesota may have been the worst team in the NBA, but the Wolves have some interesting pieces to become a contender in a few years. Spanish guard Ricky Rubio makes his NBA debut next season, third-year forward Kevin Love, 22, nearly earned an All-Star invitation, third-year forward Michael Beasley, 22, is promising and Minnesota has the No. 2 and 22 picks in Thursday’s draft.
Romar played two years at Washington and repeatedly described UW as his dream job. He ranks third among all-time UW coaches in victories. He’s been linked with college openings in the past, but has never seriously flirted with a NBA team.
