Big weekend for UW as Demarquise Johnson visits Huskies

Demarquise ‘Que’ Johnson is expected to visit Washington this weekend, according to published reports and his Twitter account. The Huskies haven’t received a verbal commitment from a 2012 prospect and landing him would be a big recruiting victory.
Many consider the 6 foot 5 shooting guard/small forward from Westwind Prep Academy in Arizona the second most important target for the Huskies behind five-star big man Anthony Bennett.
Johnson is rated a four-star recruit by Rivals while Scout and ESPN considers him a three-star prospect.
He visited Washington State (Sept. 2) and Gonzaga (Sept. 15) and is also considering taking a trip to UNLV.
The Huskies lose two seniors after the 2011-12 season, but there’s a chance more scholarships could become available if players leave school early for the NBA or transfer.
Here’s a look at UW’s top 2012 targets.

Last month Griffin Bennett at Montlake Madness gave a detailed breakdown of Johnson and handicapped UW’s chances at landing him. At the time Bennett gave UW a 30 percent chance, but back then seven schools were on his list.
In an interview with The Slipper Still Fits, a Gonzaga basketball blog, Johnson’s father Tommy outlined Que’s plans when he visits schools.
“He will be looking to get a feel for the coaching staff,” Tommy Johnson said. “He also wants to talk to some of the players and get to know them and get a feel for them.”
Tommy Johnson also said Que isn’t likely to make an announcement soon and plans to wait until after his trip to UNLV before making a decision.
“He is going to take four of his visits before making a decision,” Tommy Johnson said. “After his visits we will sit down and talk about committing and the pros and cons of each school. One thing that he has always said to me is that he will know where he wants to go, because he will feel it in his heart.”
Here’s a look at a Johnson highlight video (below) produced by HardwoodElite.com.
