Washington’s scrimmage against NBA alumni canceled

Washington canceled Wednesday’s scrimmage against alumni because publicizing the event might have been a NCAA violation.
It’s somewhat odd considering coach Lorenzo Romar spoke at length during Tuesday’s weekly press conference about how excited he was about the scrimmage. The school was going to open practice to the public and encouraged fans to attend the game scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
“It’s going to be fun,” Romar said. “It’s family against family.”
Romar said the game against the alumni was going to be best competition the team was going to face this season.
About an hour later, a UW official announced the scrimmage has been called off.
“Due to a NCAA compliance issue, tomorrow’s scrimmage has been canceled,” a school official said.
It appears the school violated a NCAA rule when Romar publicly talked about the scrimmage. Several players also tweeted about the game, which may have been a compliance issue.
Eight ex-players were scheduled to attend: Nate Robinson, Jon Brockman, Brandon Roy, Isaiah Thomas, Spencer Hawes, Quincy Pondexter, Will Conroy and Mike Jensen.
