USC football team outscores hoop squad; OSU upsets Texas

Thanks goodness for Oregon State.
The Beavers upset Texas, which put the Pac-12 in the win column Saturday. Before OSU’s victory, the conference was 0-2 following a pair of grisly defeats from USC and Utah.
Meanwhile OSU fans had a good time today. The football team upset Washington 38-21 and the hoop squad beat Texas 100-95 in overtime in the Legends Classic at East Rutherford, N.J.
Not sure if Beavers coach Craig Robinson has had a bigger non-conference victory. OSU won the College Basketball Invitational in 2009, but have never beaten a non-conference team the caliber of UT. The Beavers also improved to 4-0.
AROUND THE PAC-12:
— Unless something incredible happens Sunday when four Pac-12 teams play, Jared Cunningham will win the conference Player of the Week award. The Oregon State junior guard followed Wednesday’s 35-point career-high outing with a 37-point, nine-rebound outing Saturday against Texas.
— Not sure what’s worse for USC following a 42-36 loss Cal Poly San Luis Obispo … a) the 2,606 announced attendance. b) The Trojans scored their fewest points since 1967. c) Coach Kevin O’Neill’s postgame comments implies there’s a division among players.
Actually, it’s all bad. But the O’Neill’s insinuates USC has bigger problems than simply an ugly defeat that dropped them to 1-2. When asked if his team was embarrassed by the defeat, he told the Los Angeles Times: “About half of them are. The other … it’s KO’s fault. We all know how that goes.”
— Utah dropped its second straight game and fell to 1-2 following a 70-64 defeat to Montana State. Senior guard Josh Watkins, who has been the Utes’ top scorer in all three games, had 22 points but committed seven turnovers.
