C.J. Wilcox suffers concussion

C.J. Wilcox suffered a concussion Sunday after taking a hard hit on a screen, coach Lorenzo Romar said.
The sophomore guard will be limited in practice this week, but should return for Friday’s game against Houston Baptist.
“We don’t anticipate him being out for the next game,” Romar said. “He won’t go contact today, but we’re pretty optimistic he will be ready to go game time.”
That’s a relatively quick turnaround for a player who has received a head injury. There’s varying severeness in concussions, which effects the treatment and the days it takes to recover.
Junior center Aziz N’Diaye suffered a concussion Oct. 30 during a private scrimmage at Santa Clara and sat out nine days before returning to practice. He was elbowed in the mouth and left the game immediately. The blow was so hard, trainers needed to reset his teeth.
Wilcox crumpled to the court after running head first into a hard pick set by Saint Louis forward Brian Conklin in the second half. Wilcox left the game and did not return.
“If you watch Saint Louis play, they do that every game,” Romar said. “They send their big guy back down whenever a guard is really picking up full court. That’s just they’re standard way of playing. While the ball was dead, we had made a mistake defensively and I was yelling out instructions (and) maybe they were listening and we didn’t come up like we should have.”
